RDS-TMC connection: RDS-TMC connection is faulty

all has been well for months then this popped up - "RDS-TMC connection: RDS-TMC connection is faulty". Searched on here for the solution. Two suggestions. Tried disconnecting the power for 5 mins. No joy. Then bought replacement TMC unit off ebay. Arrived yesterday so fitted it. Error message is still there. Tried power cycle again. No joy. Other than "you've bought a faulty unit of ebay" any other suggestions?

Odd. You can put the RNS-D in diagnostics mode to see if it's talking to the TMC module, but I don't think it'll tell you anything you don't already know - ie it's not talking to it.
I would suspect a faulty replacement unit. Could be the CAN wiring between the unit and the RNS-D but I just can't see it somehow.

Did you get the exact same part number?

I did - 4B2919894. I've just bought another one from eBay (UK based this time) so will post result of that in a few days...
I found a link where someone attempted a repair by replacing three of the capacitors so I may try that with my two duffers if this one works

I had a look at the circuit board in my deceased TMC module. Didn't see anything that look like it might respond to a prod with a soldering iron. Be interested to see your link though.

different part number but internals look exactly like mine.
I also noticed that the bottom CB is soldered to the case which would suggest there some connection (earth?) but refastening my unit back into the bracket made no difference. Some of the links I looked at talk about a fuse specifically for the TMC unit but I've not been able to track one down. Is there?
The first unit came from Latvia - today's eBay purchase comes from a breaker just 3 miles from me - only I'm 40 miles away at work when he's open so it's "in the post". Fingers crossed...

Definitely no fuse. Sorry.

Bugger! 2nd RDS-TMC unit arrived in the post tonight (our postal service gets later and later!). Quickly plugged it in - same error..
Will pull the radio at the weekend and trace some wiring...

Can you communicate with the RNS-D with the
Vagcom?
Presumably you've got no display on the dash for music or nav or anything?

I haven't tried
Vagcom yet but will give that a try tonight. There's no info on the dash and I've tried cycling the display off and on via the Menu button with no success. The 'hidden' menu on the rns-d shows no Canbus connection (surprise).

The TMC module gets the car CANbus network from the dashpod. Could be a wiring fault. Have you scanned the car for faults? Any other odd CAN related faults coming up?
