My Tom Tom struggles to get a satellite lock when I use it in the 6. I believe that this is because of the double glazing, especially on the front screen.

Is there some kind of booster aerial or other solution to this? (Apart from a map book)

Double glazing?! that's new to me. I think it's just a normal laminated windscreen as in any car.

Should work fine, my phone and garmin work perfectly. Might be your TomTom playing up.

Front screens are normal thickness, but have a 'sun reflective' coating/shaded area at top.

Side windows are double glazed in the strict sense, but have no air gap between the panes like house double glazing are almost like 2 panes of glass glued together.

I had the same problem so upgraded to RNS-E with external puck under the bonnet. Cars with twin pane glass and solar sunroof have a different windscreen which blocks/ hinders gps signals.

When I had my screen replaced, they told me I had the optional screen with a reflective coating (helps keep the inside cooler - which it actually does as I noticed the dash never feels that hot in the sun). This plays havoc with a sat nav or mobile signal!

You can get a GPS repeater. I've got one in mine. Works like a charm. All GPS devices in my car work perfectly now.

That's exactly the problem I have!

TomTom's website suggests getting a 're-radiating antenna' from a third party supplier. How helpful!

Anyone ever used one of these?

Is the GPS Repeater the same as the 're-radiating antenna'?

I put a spare cigar lighter socket for it in my glovebox wired into the 75X terminal so that it powers on with the ignition. I ran the antenna through to the front bumper through the large grommet behind the glove box.

Fire and forget. I never give it a second though. Just works.

The large grommet behind the glove box which you referred to, is that the one in this photo?

Can anyone recommend which is the best grommet to use to pass a wire from inside the car through to the engine bay? The one in the photo above seems to be the easiest to get to, but I'm reluctant to use it as it's not for wiring and I'm concerned that if I pop a wire through it, it may leake!

No, the one I used was for a really fat bundle of wires to go through.

Just take the glovebox out, you'll see the one I mean.

I've taken the glovebox out and I could only see two grommets, the one in the photo and one that was about 8 inches below it. This one had several cables going through it. I fed a piece of welding wire through it, about 12 inches, but I could not find it when it passed through to the engine side. How high or low down was the one that you used?
