Intercoolers- how much ? Plus gearbox service intervals

Looking through the history of my recent purchase I've noticed that at the last service it was noted that both intercoolers were leaking.
What are the options re replacement and how much will it cost?
Secondly how often does the gearbox need servicing. Mine was done 8k miles ago just want an idea when I need to spend on that?

Wagners for intercoolers - speak to Grizz at Unit20.
Gearbox wise i had mine done 10k after it was rebuilt... debatable as to how regular, Audi will say never, owners will say as often as you can.
I'd consider going to ZF in Germany like some guy did off the BMW forums, cant find the link to it though

Both MRC and Unit 20 will do a repair on your i/c's for not a lot of cash - will generally last a good long time.
The Wagner option will set you back only a little more than OEM replacements and will give you much more reliability (OEM ones are rumoured to be made from cheese!!) plus a nominal increase in power, though I doubt you will notice the latter.
I would suggest you declare the Wagners to your insurance company for peace of mind.

Thanks for the replies will see what MRC say when it goes in for service. Wagners seem to be circa £1200 which I assume is supply only I assume fitting is quite expensive?
Sweegie got your PM and did reply but not sure if I did it right ?

You can get them without the carbon fibre shrouds. They are cheaper.
That's what I did.

You can repair the intercoolers yourself, easy job but they will need replacingat some point. Gearbox service every 10k should see you ok.

I didn't know about the Wagners when I had my car done, paid the same price for the Original Audi intercoolers so kicking myself a bit for not doing my research first!
So where's the best place to get the gearbox serviced? I got a friend to help me do it last time on my dying box, it was a really messy job so I don't really want to ask him to help do it again, especially since he won't accept anything in return.

I took mine to MRC. It was a 4 hour round trip but I knew the plus was in good hands so it was worth it.
QST are quite close to you I think so maybe worth giving them a try as well.

I have my old OE intercoolers sitting in the garage, they had only recently started leaking when I had Wagners fitted by MRC. If it helps anyone I would happily sell them to get them out of the garage? That way they could send them repaired or I could send them to whoever they wanted to repair them?

This was a fantastic guide to repairing the I/C's should the buyer fancy a bit of DIY! -

@pete62, I refurbed the intercoolers about 8 months ago, if you look through the grills next to the fog lights you will be able to see the epoxy repairs on the corner of the intercoolers. They should be good for sometime yet. MRC recommend the box is serviced every 20k so it was done at 73k after being replaced at 53k so should be good until 93k but Doug @ MRC will confirm that for you.
Cheers

Ah Rustybucket nice to hear from you. As you can see from my posts ive done a few minor things ( including scratching the bonnet which really pi**ed me off but you live and learn) I got most of the scratches out in the end.
None of my questions on here in anyway reflect on your stewardship of the car I'm just fishing around trying to decide which direction to go in. All in all I love the car and find ridiculous errands to do just to go out in it. Find myself laughing out loud sometimes when driving so despite the possible big bills worth it for the sheer grin factor !
I hear you got your S3 , are you pleased with it
I have only driven my BMW twice in the six weeks since I bought the car!
Wheel refurb next then we'll see ,don't want to rush to MRC just for the sake of it but will probably get it serviced at 83k which is in a couple of thousand miles time.then I'll see what MRC say.
Anyway just thought of a pointless errand so I'm off out
Enjoy
