Question for those who have or had Manual Gearbox conversion

Post by LunarWolf » Wed May 14, 2014 8:22 pm

Hi!

Quick questions! Sorry if it's been done before. Did a search: nothing came up...

For those with C5 RS6 with the Manual conversion....

How did it affect your insurance?
Or didn't you tell them?
Did you change the details on the DVLA V5?

If it's on the Logbook, then does it count as a modification or a special edition??

Thanks, folks! :)
I've finally got my head together but now my body is falling apart!

From what ive heard it costs in excess of £8k to do the conversion so whats an extra few quid on insurance?

I cant see it really effecting it too much tbh just get an agreed valuation on it so if it all goes pete tong theyll have to pay to have the conversion done to another car

Anyone had it done for 8k, I've heard more like 15k minimum and one story of 40k

T'is a good point, I've not looked on the log book but insurance know about the conversion. I don't think they were worried about the manual conversion that much, it was the 330ish HP over stock that lifts the premium.

Hi guys.
Thanks for the replies...
Sorry for the delay. I've been very unwell the last couple of weeks so haven't been around.

Ok... I'm not worried about the cost of the insurance etc. (although i bought the car already converted)
FYI, the invoice i have was £13000 including box, convert kit and labour. (pre vat).

My point being.....
If it's on the V5.... and can be claimed as an Audi special edition, then it isn't counted as a modification, right???
Most "middle-ground" insurance companies allow for three modifications, meaning that gives me scope for one more!

As it stands, i'd rather pay extra for a guaranteed like-for-like anyway, so they would have to convert!

As the RS6 was never offered with a manual box, no matter what's on the V5 insurance companies will always class it as a major modification and so will charge you accordingly.

The mod list for mine is longer than Sarah Jessica Parker's sad face but they still insure like-for-like. I'm not sure you could roll with this Audi special edition you speak of. I can see most insurance companies wiggling straight out of that one. Who did the conversion?

Thanks Maximo.
Thanks BamBam.

It was QST who did the conversion. Based "Daan Saaf"!
Who are you insured with, please mate? I'll give them a go! :)

Thanks, Bam>.. They have been great for me in the past, but last couple of years were nowhere near competitive!

Yes, Chunky, it is....
what do you mean about last owner?
that bigrod guy?

If so... yeah... i saw the threads! A disgrace to the human race, let alone the Audi community!!
I'd like not to be put in the same bracket as him, if that's ok? It's the same car with a much more humble and down-to-earth owner!

I've been on this site and other Audi forums for quite some time, and One of my worries was being bracketed regarding his involvement.
The truth is, i have history with this car since before Duncan owned it!

I'd hate to have to stop coming on this site because of the dickwad/nimro/bigrod whatever.

Sorry.... feeling a bit melancholy tonight. Had some bad news this week....

Yeah, people didn't take to bigwad for some reason. Top bloke I thought. Considerably richer than us, though.

Don't worry about it. If you can laugh at yourself, take a knock and get up, you'll be fine.

Shop... LoL
I remember someone putting that harry enfield sketch up about him... that was SO apt....
The guy who had it after him (albeit briefly) was a nicer guy though... to a point anyway!

Bam... Thanks... appreciate that... (are you on the UrS site too? I'm sure we've chatted there too!)
i ALWAYS laugh at myself! (if ya can't beat 'em.....)

I'm sure i'll be fine... once people realise i'm just a lowly servant to the Audi regime! I feel a bit like i'm in the closet so to speak at the moment!!! LoL
