sadly gearbox issues can be expensive. not to the mention the other bits that also need doing. if we assume your car is worth 10-12k and when you also take in into account the money it may need spending on it. lets say 3-6k, It leaves you with a range of 4-9k, so id say 6.5 for a fast sale and yeah, maybe start it at 9.

its soul crushing i know, but this is the price you pay for the engineering when its running well. maybe get some prices to fix it first, and get rid.

Not so sure that they're particularly well engineered, plenty goes wrong compared to the older models such as the RS2, B5 RS4 etc.

My '96 S6 never misses a beat and costs me very little to maintain, plus it isn't a million miles behind in terms of real world pace, that's old skool over-engineering.

As for the OP's question, very much depends on the extent of the gbox problem; you've got to be prepared for a potential £3.5k bill for just that issue alone; £6k would probably get it sold by Christmas.

Makes sense now, I thought the £8k was generous and originally thought £5k but couldn't be bothered to post. I'd put it on at £6,500 and wait for the right buyer.

If I were in the market for a C5 RS 6, I'd actually prefer to buy a C5 cheaper with a box that is already broken so I could slap a brand new one in and have some piece of mind, rather than wait for it to go.

I've had little interest in mine (admittedly I've made hardly any effort to sell it), very well spec'd but with recent gearbox issues and a cam belt service due I'm finding I could shift it at 5k but to get 6k is gonna take a while.

Wasn't taking the piss as such.

You have a car with a goosed gbox and a leaking steering rack. Box minimum 3.5k and another 1k for the rack plus labor. You aren't going to see change from 6k.

Then as you say it has a part service history, not many people would take a chance on that.

Over 100k miles on it, are the intercoolers ok? Chances are not. Another grand.

Plus all the other bits and pieces whilst the engine is out, EGT lambda etc. Possibly the chain tensioners. All this is another couple of grand.

So that's circa £9k, roughly what the car is worth. So to be serious £1.5 -2k. As you said on your other thread you might want to break it.

Yes sound like golf father now, must stop it!!!

Agree with Ginge, no point in beating around Panda's bush with this. When my box finally throws its last death rattle I know I am in for the best part of 10k in work as being how I am, I won't have a single thing skimped on while everything is out.

Must continue to resist the V10 urge....... At least UNTIL I have finally got a house.......
