Right I have taken the plunge - Coilovers coming off!!!

Post by jamesfunge » Wed Dec 11, 2013 4:57 pm

After much deliberation I have decided to put myself and my beloved 6 up for the guinea pig test. Replacing my H&R coilovers for something a bit softer!!!!

After reading the 7 page thread from RS6.com over and over I have decided to fit Koni Sport Shocks and the original DRC springs. Quite a few people have done this in the US with great success.

I will post up pics and progress over the next couple of weeks so people can judge for themselves.

Here is the link to the US build thread, this setup seems to yield a very comfortable, compliant ride whilst still having enough to keep it sporty in the twisty stuff.

http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/23946 ... low-Sports

FYI, I will be fitting ARB's to compensate for the loss of coilovers.

STAY TUNED :-)

Pondering over the thought of going down a similar route myself but with Blistein B8 sprint shocks. I'll be intrigued to see how you get on. When you thinking of doing the swap?

Good man, i looked at this option and pretty much decided i was doing this and have been trying to get a set of standard springs first before buying the shocks.
This is proving to be more difficult than i thought, they seem to be like hens teeth - everyone seems to throw them out when they change to coilies.
Let me know how you get on - quite happy for you to be the Guinea Pig
Best price was from Larkspeed when last i looked.

Got B8's on my S6, nice & smooth, progressive damping; make my H&R coilys feel like a hay cart :dung:

Yeh i must admit this kind of option sounds appealing alright. Coilovers certainly have their place but for the kind of roads round my neck of the woods and if i'm honest the kind of driving i'll be doing 99% of the time, i think good quality uprated shocks would make me more than happy. Ride height is important though so would need to have the car sitting level and certainly no higher than stock DRC. Hmmmm...

Ah i see, now that is one slammed to the gunnels avant!! I agree, slightly lower than standard would be just fine but perhaps this is taking it a wee bit too far for my liking. he he!! Nice wheels though.
