Error code 18080 p1672 cooling fans staying on C5 RS6

Post by Aggro65 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:09 pm

I hope someone can help. You all have posted helpful answers regarding this cooling fan open to short issue but none have worked. I firstly checked that everything looked OK ie no frayed or cut wires, rusted terminals etc. after reading posts, I changed the main cooling fan control unit, the one that sits under the left longitudinal member. Problem persists. I then changed the green engine coolant temp sensor. Problem persists. I then changed the ECM relay. Problem is still there. The only way I can get power off the fans was when I pulled the ECM relay out, hence my decision to replace it. I'm now thinking that the fan is faulty but this poses 2 problems. 1 it's not available in South Africa, 14- 21 working days to get it here from Germany and 2 they want to rip me off by charging me over 750!pounds for the complete fan and control unit. If this is what I need to do then fine but I'm loathe to spend the money if it doesn't solve the issue
Guys I need help. I don't have experience using the VCDS to measure blocks etc but obviously, if someone can tell me what to do, I will give it a go.

Good luck sounds a headache, maybe try a simple one and disconnect the battery for a couple of hours. Could be and ecu fault. What error codes do you get?

There are 2 fans one is controlled by the module on the chassis leg that you changed the other has the module built in to the fan unit.

You changed the wrong control module. That code is for the 600W fan that has the control module built into it. Audi should have known that.

You can use the Vagcom to power up the fans individually by using the output tests and walking through the outputs - they will be labelled, it's pretty straight forward.

But the code is fairly specific. Still, if you've got a Vagcom, do the test.
