So 1 month into ownership and the engine is out to sort the knackered gearbox. I read all the forums and spoke to owners and no-one mentioned that the gearbox's are prone to fail, so its come as a real surprise

Intercooler's have been pressure tested and staggeringly they are both leaking, I know it must be a first :biggrin3:

Wagners on order with the hoses. Everything else looks OK, but wanted advice on anything else that's worth looking at whilst its out??

Properly missing the car already. Got a weekend in London with the Doris and was so looking forward to taking the RS6. Not looking forward to breaking the news to her that we have to take the Vauxhall Viva :bigblink:

Glad she's gonna be fixed up. Didn't realise you could whip the engine out front off wise, thought you had to drop the subframe etc

Take lots of photos please!

Wow thats just plain unlucky I dont think ive ever heard of a gearbox going on one of these! Let alone the Intercooler leak.

Next youll be telling me the ultra reliable DRC is shot??

Theres prob a million things that are worth doing vac lines, sensors, seals and pipework,

cue Shop......

Funny you should mention the DRC, bloke I bought it from put coil overs on it, said the DRC didn't fail or anything, he just had some money hanging about and his football card collection was up to date, so he changed the suspension.......some people are weird!

What ever you do don't gut the pre cats or even worse fit catless downpipes. What might be useful since they NEVER fail is replace the EGT sensors since Audi reckon this is an engine out job!

Make sure the steering rack bolts are tight while you have access.

That's a bit poo.

Do this:
1. EGT sensors
2. Lambda sensors
3. Rocker cover gaskets
4. Upgrade plastic pipe in oil filter housing
5. Front crank seal
6. Might as well replace the vac pipes, N75, DV, etc.
7. If you've got the money, some Loba hybrid turbos

Loba turbos on special offer too!
Hmm, perhaps I should knock Vegas on the head next year.

Haven't we already proved that uprated turbos make feck all difference in the C5 RS 6...? Unless you do all the mega work like Bam did, and even he said he wouldn't do it again IIRC, whilst the box is out though, I suppose you ought to check/refurb the current ones at least.

They make a difference, but alot of other hard work has to go in along with them to make them worth while. If I win the lotto tonight then the FULL works will be done to mine.
