Brakeupgrade C6 discs? what do i need?

Post by Deckedm » Sun Aug 18, 2013 5:15 pm

Hi people, ive got some C6 RS6 discs laying around 390x36 and id like to use them on the RS6 C4.

What is needed to use these discs with the 8 pots RS calipers? i guess well be needing a custom made bracket?

Has anyone done this before???

thankyou

Hi there

Assuming that the C4 was meant to say C5, then your best bet is to contact Grizz at Unit 20 who can supply all the parts you need to do this IIRC

When I enquired they were not doing parts for this now. TBH, my totally refurbed setup with plus discs, braided lines and race pads seem more than up to the job on the road. Off to the ring Sat so will see what their like there.

I think you are probably right that he's not still doing it (I had heard rumours), but he might be able to point you to someone who has made the brackets and spacers before.

Otherwise I dare say Bam or one of the others who has gone down the big brake route may be able to point you in the right direction - do a bit of a search and you may get some clues.

Bam has the full kit, so swapped his 8 pots for the C6 6 pots. I was told it was pointless putting the C6 390mm discs on C5 8 pots as you don't get full pad sweep, amongst other things.

You'll need a 6.7mm spacer and a custom center ring. That's it. Well, maybe longer bolts.

The C6 discs have a larger bore than the C5, without the center ring (spigot) the wheel will only rely on wheel bolts to centre the C6 disc. Also, you don't want the weight of the car on the wheel bolt, you want it on the hub.

Honestly, using the C6 discs isn't the best solution and doing it as above still isn't that safe. You've been warned.

That is what I have, c6 discs with c5 calipers. Centre ring and the spacer for the caliper. I agree with Bam it isn't a good solution.
I having sitting in a box c6 calipers and pads, which I will fit once A. My current discs are worn out and B. I get around to ordering the discs that actually fit.

Where can you buy the center ring from?

Does the car squirm when braking hard even with the center ring?

Is that meant to be someone or Simone? I haven't ever met anyone called someone, someone else yes, but not someone.

Sell the C6 disks and get a Loba / AP rotor & bell kit? This would be a miles better solution in my opinion, and one that bolts straight on.

Requires new pads, which are expensive... not to mention the price of the Loba discs! But yeah, better soltion.
