Glovebox woes

Chaps,

Just collected the new RS6 and had more opportunity to poke and prod. Turns out the glovebox won't open. Any ideas of how to get into it without trashing it or just making it look worse?

Thanks a million.

Rob

Have you tried unlocking it with the key first?

Yes, but i recall that my sister had a similar problem on her A4.

could it be cable related internally.

The last 3 times I have read this thread title as "Gearbox woes" as if it is programmed in to my brain......

I bet money on it that the OP would have said if the handle was physically not pulling out, indicating that it was locked if memory serves. I assume that the handle pulls freely but there is no feeling of it pulling anything at all?

I had a similar problem on my S4 where the mechanism in the lock broke. The way to open it is to open the passenger door, remove the panel to the side of the glovebox, which just unclips, and push the retainer back from the slot that it locks into. This will release the glovebox.
Once open, you can cut a pencil rubber to size to put in that hole, which will allow you to use the glovebox and open and close it.

Snap, that's why I have only just opened it, couldn't be doing with the echo yesterday.

Anyhoo, glovebox bosted, ace stuff. I can't remember if the rs6 has a plastic safety key for the glovebox like my s4 did. You could only unlock it with the plastic key, think it was classed as a service key meaning the thing was secure when being serviced.

Actually feels as if turning the lock makes no difference - feels as if its quite solid. Could it be that the locking mechanism is 'free'?

Have to wait to get it back from the garage to have a go at it...

It's probably full of class A's and shooters. This could be an epic thread.

I've already found a TomTom in the door pocket...

Maybe there will be the dog that chewed the handbrake so I can slap him!

Just don't look at the previous destinations on it. That could lead to all kinds of problems :bigblink:
