Armed with the buyers guide.......
Armed with the buyers guide.......
Hi all,
I printed off the buyers guide and armed with this went to see a 2004 RS6 Avant.
The general condition of the car's exterior is good but 3 of the wheels need to be re lacquered. The lower piece of trim on the drivers door sticks out slightly and there is slight movement, are these screwed in place or clips or taped?
The interior is also good apart from a shoe mark on the back of the front passenger seat. Everything electrical seemed to work, the aircon was ice cold and sat nav disk was present.
It also has darkened rear windows and drilled disks front and rear. It will come with the full cambelt service done.
The car drove very smoothly and seemed very responsive with no hesitation under a heavy right foot. No knocks or rattles.
The only things of concern are that the indicators stopped flashing but the lights lit whilst test driving and all adjustments on the drivers seat worked apart from the forward/backward button which also seemed to stop at the same time as the indicators!!! Also when we bought the car back and parked up but left it running, it sounded as though it was hunting slightly but with no movement of the rev counter, is this normal or does it happen when the fans kick in?
I'm totally blown away with how nice a place the cabin is to be and how nicely the car drives, biggest niggle is selling my Evo 9 FQ340. It has 22300 miles on it and I have had 5 years trouble free motoring with it and a big grin on my face every time I drive it but I need something more practical space wise and a mileage muncher for our bi annual Spain trips. A big decision to make!!
Any useful tips or advice welcomed.

Shouldn't be hunting. Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Not likely to br anything serious.
The indicators are a known problem. £30 fix.
Can't see how the electric seats would be linked. The elec seats are properly dumb.

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
Thanks for the reply, are the indicators solenoid/relay related? Or could it be an earthing issue if the seat stopped working? My wife and the guy from the dealer both moved the seat into position but when the indicators packed up so did the seat, though you could still move the back of the seat????Shoppinit wrote:Shouldn't be hunting. The indicators are controlled by the hasard switch.
Not sure why the seat's playing up. Could be dodgy earth. Doesn't seem likely. Maybe coincidence.
Did the passenger side seat work ok?

You won't regret going for the RS6 I came from Evo 8MR then EVO X the Audi is a real practical beast get it mapped straight through system and happy days. I have to say after owning three Evos I wouldn't, go back . My only problem after two years of ownership is what to get next. Don't like the shape of the C6

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
I owned 3 Imprezas and went back to the third one this week. A much, much nicer place to be/drive in general than the Evo VII I owned. Surprised that the Evo X didn't tickle your giblets well enough though?

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
Not necessarily bought it, its a stunning car, if the niggles are sorted and the full cambelt service done and they accept an offer, then it ticks all the boxes. I've been looking for nearly a year and have seen plenty I like but for one reason or another haven't taken the plunge to test drive with the wife or with serious intention of buying. One of the main issues is my wife, she's had 2 major hip operations in the last 3 years from horse related injuries and is now going to have ground breaking surgery in December which will hopefully give her 10-20 years of full mobility. She cant be in the Evo for long and as such makes it a bit redundant as a second car. All journeys of longer than 1 hour are done in the Range Rover, which subsequently is racking up the miles. This solution seems to tick a lot of boxes, I get a fast, practical estate and she can also share driving duties whilst giving the Range Rover a deserved rest. The ability to purchase also comes into it, as a private sale I would have to sell the Evo first but as a dealer purchase I'd stick it on a card, then 0% transfer and pay off in full when the Evo sells.Mr Footlong wrote:I still don't understand why it seems that you bought the first one that you saw? As they say, its not over until the fat lady sings.....if the niggles are not rectified properly then its over and I will look at a private sale in North London.

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
Apologies, for some bizarre reason when I read it, I had it in my head that you had bought it....
Audi dealership, random trader or private sale? Assuming the first or second. On both occasions where I have bought a car from random "sports specialist" trader for me and they have done corrective pre-sale work, it has been totally wrong. Always helps to read all of what somebody has posted, the dealer question deffo applies.
Have you made any contact with Mattjet1 regarding his? If it is a price thing, everyone has wiggle room built in. I always work on 10% wiggle room myself. A RS6 with an intact extended warranty is a rare beast....

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
I have been in contact with Mattjet1 and depending on what happens will contact him again. I appreciate that the Audi warranty is rare but with a warranty come restraints. Having owned an Audi before and experiencing both my local dealers servicing, I'm not sure I want to go there again. I'm not sure about independents and am looking into it.

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
Had a look at the wiring diagrams out of idle curiosity. As suspected the seats have nothing to do with the hazards. Not even a shared earth point.
Interestingly the same fuse does the back and forward, height and rake adjustment, so the only thing I can think of to explain the seat would be a knackered motor or switch.

Re: Armed with the buyers guide.......
I don't think either will be a cheap fix though will they as the seat may have to come out? I was told that is a bit of a <beep> to do?
