Sprung a leak ;-(

A little Sunday drive up the coast and an unexpected whine started. So I pulled over and discovered the power steering reservoir was low.

Fortunately I was a stone throw from a service station that had some PSF. Topped it up and got the air out the system til the noise subsided.
I then drove home pretty pissed off as it cut my day short.

On parking up I checked fluid level again to find it had dropped down again.

Some checks and it appears to be coming out of the driver's side somehwere. Not had the chance yet to pull the wheel off to inspect it further, hopefully tomorrow evening after work.

Has anyone else experienced this and a possible solution other than steering rack out?

I'm kinda hoping for the best scenario that its a hose or seal that I can easily change rather than a dreaded rack replacement.

I've had the pump pop a hose and empty itself. I had to drive it 20 miles through roundabout infested Essex without any powersteering, it destroyed me, I couldn't masturbate for weeks. Once the hose was replaced and refilled, all was back to normal. I've been masturbating twice a day ever since.

You getting ready for it to happen again then?

Do you know if the pump is on the n/s or o/s bam?

It was o/s, I think, it emptied itself all over a aircraft hanger floor, the detailer wasn't best pleased when I returned for pick up. It was well over 18months ago, so I'm ready.

:? Cheers guys.

Well all going to plan I'll be able to squeeze in some time to get in about it for a look this evening.

Fingers crossed it's anything but the rack.

Fingers crossed for you mate. Might be worth doing the twice-a-day method mentioned above just incase. If you get caught or even pulled up on it then you have a good reason!

Are those white wall tyres you have on your sig pic?...I have only ever heard Billy Joel singing about them before and was not even sure they were still available.

The pump is on the n/s , if it's leaking on the o/s at the rear of the engine pay it could only really be the rack .

Yep, it's the dish on the wheels.

There is snow on the ground in this pic too.
