DRC Replacment
DRC Replacment
Just got my 6 back from the stealers full service, with advisers to my N/S front & rear shocks are leaking.
I need to replace the DRC system with coil overs but don't know which ones.
Any recommendations, Bilstien, Koni ?
HELP!!!

Re: DRC Replacment
If moneys no object Bilstein pss9 or Ohlins and some Hotchkis ARB's
Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.
Re: DRC Replacment
As Bilko said, it all depends on the budget. Most of us that have replaced the drc have gone with the pss9's, in my opinion they are the better buy and worth the extra cash. Although they do give a lot firmer ride.
And ditto for the hotchkis, another worthy addition to the car!

Re: DRC Replacment
Thanks bil.
How about the H&R' coilovers lots 6's with them on but most say too stiff ?
The buget will be about £1200 for the suspension bits as I also need to change the front & rear discs (also advised).

Re: DRC Replacment
you have a few options for your budget, i have recently replaced the DRC with an ST coilover by KW height adjustable, bought from US as they only sell it there! It is basically a KW V1 but without lifetime warranty(only 5 years) and it is not anti-rust proof, therefore a lower price, in UAE rust isn't an issue, however in UK i am sure it's a big one. The ride is more than i thought it would be, i love it, almost as comfortable as the DRC when driving within the city or hwy and very good on cornering, i would say the set up is great for my needs! I didn't want to spend extra for a KW V3 or Pss9 as i don't need all the adjustments as once you find the right set up you will not adjust it again, unless you do tracking days and from what i have seen on my friend's RS6 who has the KW V3, is really not an easy job to adjust the compression and rebound, he's had it for 3 years now and never adjusted it afterwards...and it is stiffer, it's all up to your needs and budget!
2004 RS6 by ABT, madly in love with it, RNS-E, ST coilovers, new TC, 19x9x29 RS4 B7 wheels, non-resonated Milltek w/blk tips, TBC....SOLD - but never to be forgotten!
2004 RS6 ebony schwarz, SE exhaust, 19'' rims - SOLD
'09 RS6 C6 - the great white - now, this means business!

Re: DRC Replacment
You could try Mart - http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=101605
Or you could try Unit20 for repairing your drc.
I have gone with pss9s and now have Hotchkiss arbs, never had working drc so can not compare. H&R coil overs are meant to be a hard ride, sit a little lower and also seem to sag at the rear as time goes on.
I think you will regret budgeting on the suspension mate. You say the brakes need changing, are they oem at the moment? Have the pins started to score the discs? Have you also got a budget fro the brakes cause a few of the guys have purchased discs from zimmerman which are alot cheaper than oem so you may have more wonga for the coilovers.
Brakes tyres and suspension imo are where you need to buy correctly.

Re: DRC Replacment
I've just had my drc replaced by Qst they fitted the bilstien kit but it's the kit with none adjustable damping as I don't plan to do any track days and once it's fitted a doubt I'll be wanting to fiddle with damper settings.
They are cheaper I think around 1200 fitted including vat BUT remember it is a 6 so no doubt once you take the drc off you'll find a few worn bushes maybe worn top mounts and a few other bits and bobs so I'd budget another 4-500 quid to sort anything else that crops up along the way.
I'm gonna pick the car up next week so I'll let you know about the ride comfort but I'm hoping it's not too spine jarring

Re: DRC Replacment
Billies would be my choice, Ohlins are great and I have used there new range on my Evo but they require rebuilding/servicing very frequently.
Re: DRC Replacment
I think the DRC needs to go as it been repaired by me & the previous owner at various times, a pipe here a shock there. The bilstiens pss look like they might be the ones for me as I can get them for about £900 & fit them at my mates garage, I'll also hold some wonga back & sort out the hotchkis ARB aswell as the bits & bobs.
Disc & pads are Oem & haven't scored the discs yet, but can wait a little while as the stealers said I've got about 3000miles left in them but who knows it is a RS6 after all.
Thank you all for your input I will let you all know how it goes.

Re: DRC Replacment
That won't be the PSS9 for 900 surely?
The H&R are much harsher and, as Dunc says, they are too low and sag.

Re: DRC Replacment
what are we looking at cost wise between a full set of coilovers OR replacing 2 DRC shocks
Re: DRC Replacment
At the moment front & rear shocks but knowing the stealers it'll some new pipework this & that bang £1000 quid.
I'm sure it'll be better to change them now.

Re: DRC Replacment
the drc is so unreliable, you'll prob be sending it to grizz next year to be refurbed and regassed. coilovers is the best solution for long term reliability.
and i know i'm going to get shot down by a couple of owners here, as they swear by the drc and its still running on their cars now, but as a majority, the drc is scrapped.

I agree I've thrown enough money at it (DRC), time for change.
