Just thought I would let you boys know that my new gearbox for the 6 is sat at 517 over the pond waiting to be worked on.
I expect it to be 2-3 weeks before it arrives back here. I took some advice over this and decided to go this way as all the info was forth coming ( unlike another company) so thanks for all the info and help as you know who you are

I am not however looking forward to dealing with the blood suckers though on its return!
I will update as and when I get info

I bought the gearbox in America and paid $1000 for it and that included a low mileage Tc and delivery to 517

the gearbox will be fully refurbed including the TC but I think I will be keeping my ace one and refitting it.

Sounds like a great deal
So, with that nice box and your nice turbos, will you be able to crack 1000nm soon??

Do not refit the A.C.E converter, leave the one 517 mate to the rebuilt 'box. Simplez.

This.
And go easy on the torque

even the biggest turbos we can upgrade to are too small to sustain crazy torque for very long, and a diesel like power curve is no fun.

To get the most from the 4.2 you need GT30s and you can't fit those with a slushbox in situ. Besides, heavy car, truckload of torgue and AWD - I'm betting it'll still break the weakest points... input shafts, drive shafts and clutchpacks (yes, even after the full 517 treatment). The only good thing Panda has in her favour is choice of tyre, thankfully those will release some strain from her drivetrain.
Panda, rule 1 a VBOX in your car before and after the 517 install, that'll be the best documentation we could hope for. It'll tell us how much your current gearbox was losing to the road. Also, it'll be very interesting to see how the torque reads on a dyno after the 517 'box goes in. Slipping gearboxes and dyno give very odd results.

Fair play on this Amanda. Have you found a company that will fit and warranty the box/work?

I have just spoken to 517 and gearbox will be stripped and then rebuilt including the TC to their specs. I will take further advise over which TC to fit in the car. Gearbox will be fitted by either my dealer or Chester Transmission.

You can get a dealer to fit a non-standard part, really? You'd be mad to re-fit that A.C.E TC, then again, you do run Bridgestones...

Got to hand it to a few people on here ; they're either very optimistic / trusting by nature, or just caked in money !!
Although I'm not currently experiencing any g'box issues, the 517 option seems to be the repair/upgrade of choice for many and, should it be a road I need to go down one day, would certainly be a consideration. THE biggest thing for me however is support/back-up ... having spent a decent amount of time and money over the years chasing 'specialists' to correct really basic things that should've been done from the outset, deciding to go with an overseas firm to rebuild such a complex item (especially when I assume there's a point in time when you've paid several thousand pounds and are still gearboxless! ), takes a real commitment.
So, good luck with it Amanda .. I'm sure with the reputation 517 seem to have all will be fine and you'll have no regrets.
Respect

Neither of my main dealers would want to know
