To save you reading back the current spec of my car is TTE 650 turbos,milltek race down pipes(inc. 100 cel cats),Wagner intercoolers,full milltek exhaust and ITG air filters. Relatively simple spec but pretty decent on the road. Mines was relatively standard beforehand with the milltek exhaust and chips but now its like comparing an xr3i with an rs turbo for a simple reference. Totally different animal now

I have always thought that EVERY dyno graph can be easily checked for accuracy by checking where the Torque curve and Power curve intersect.
If they intersect anywhere other than at 5252rpm then the readings are not accurate.
Is this not the case?
(Ok I'm ready for the beating that will probably follow now, but I am being serious here)!!

Depending on the scales used on the graph they could intersect anywhere or not at all.

To be honest I'm not sure there is an easy way to tell if a dyno is accurate. Especially since they use witchcraft to work out crank hp. I guess if you'd run an engine on an engine dyno, then put it in a car and it worked it out to roughly the same then you could say it was accurate. But I think a big part is how accurately the dyno can work out transmission losses.

There-in lay the problem. It's a pretty broad margin of error that has to account for various chassis, drivetrains, transmissions and even tyres. I'd love to know what would happen if you dyno'd an R35 then transplanted the donk into a C5 for a dyno blast. Slushy, caketin chassis and quattro versus purpose built coupe, ATTESA, dual-clutcher. I know that engine swap would never happen and we can only surmise what the losses might be but it would certainly highlight some interesting deltas about dynos.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I see. Didn't think about the scales used on the graph. The transmission losses of course will always be a bit of an (educated guess).

So using the formula

BHP=(Torque X RPM)/5252 + transmission losses

can only be used to a certain degree of accuracy for the same reasons-transmission losses is a variable with a certain amount of guess work involved.

However, it should still be accurate to work out a car's wheel horse power. . . Shouldn't it?

The word 'Fugly' comes to mind. It also reminds me of something similar that the cat threw up recently :drink:
