10mm spacers bring the wheels nicely to the edge of the arches. You can't go lower than 8mm and stay hubcentric.

I don't think there are many R01 are there? There were only 2 tyres approved for the RS6 at the time, the PS2 R01 and the contis, can't remember which ones.

10mm? All round?
I was thinking more like 5mm to take the tyre away from the knobble.

What does hubcentric mean?

Ahh is that the only to, I thought on the net I'd seen Dunlop sport RO1's I might mistaken though

There is a centering ring on the hub to center the wheels. When you put a spacer on the wheel is no longer in contact with the hub, so you need a way of centering the wheel. Hubcentric spacers have a ring on them to center the wheel. The spacers are centered on the hub and the wheels are centered on the spacers. 5mm wouldn't be enough for the spacer to have a centering ring on it and be centered itself. Not a very good explanation, but you can take my word for it. :)

Ah right I get what you mean, using hubcentric spacer keeps everything lined up and located sweetly.

I'm thinking of getting spacers to eliminate tyres rubbing on the knobble, so 8mm ofn each side should easily clear them. Can you recommend where to purchase or link to look at?

Thanks again shoppinit.

Yeah, contact Virdee. He will sort you out with some H&R spacers.

If you get tyres that don't rub on knobbly then you don't have to bother with the spacers. It's always better to be without spacers if possible. Don't forget you'll need longer bolts, too, if you do go the spacer route.

Grinding off the Ol' Knobbly only takes 10 mins per side, and eliminates the problems with his presence, making a wide range of tyres able to fit without problems.

IIRC PZero's were also OEM fitted - certainly fit OK without de-knobbling. However they are useless (like the Conti's IMHO)

Cheers Dave, I've been looking at that solution too but I can't make my mind up whether that knobble is part of casting process or whether it serves actual strength properties!?

Chap, I have spanked my shocks/ front arms since MRC ground the knobbles off for me and I have had no problems, no signs of stress or fatigue. If you are in any doubt, get a professional to do it. I had no problems with doing it myself but the new wheels were shipped up to MRC so made sense for them to do it one time.
Current:

23' C8 RS6 Vorsprung - 23' RS E-Tron GT Carbon Vorsprung

Gone:

"Brutus"- C5 RS6 Avant - MRC stage 2 - Milltek non-res + 100 cell cats - Wagner ICs - PSS9 - H&R ARBs - OZ Superturismo LM - C6 Custom brakes - HD RNS-E - Various other bits - 555PS/832Nm
"Taz"- C7 RS6 - MRC stage 2 745PS/1095Nm
12' Cayenne Turbo, B7 RS4, S3, Cupra R, XJR, EVO VII, STI8,5,2&WRX, 106 GTI&XSI, other crap.

This was my initial problem but then thought 'screw you knobbo'. Just take it off mate, i would say over 50% of cars on this forum have had theirs removed.
I have spacers on my shopping list ready for when/if i get new wheels, I think they give the motor a meaner pressence but can also wear the wheel bearings out faster.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

Didnt read El gringos comment and found out that the knobbly bit has carved and scrapped into my new Goodyear F1 assymetric 2s. Going to get rid of the knobbly bit before it kills the front tyres. :bash:

I really don't get it! Your life, and that of your motor, depend on four small patches of rubber in contact with (often wet) tarmac - and you want to economise??

Get some Goodyears (~£800) or Vreds (~£650) and stay alive!!

If you really want to save money run on 95 RON, don't change the oil, avoid cambelt services etc - but don't scrimp on rubber!!
