so I believe its over the 200k mark. I got the box done every service ( approx. every 10k ) as it was cheap enough, and not a big deal to drop the pan on it (unlike the pain in the ar*e that the c6 platform isSuprSi wrote: tmg, I wonder how far your old car's gone now, I can't believe you got that far on the original box! Did you get it serviced regularly to manage that or it just lasted?

Re: RS6 High Milers
201,000km's.....126,000miles.
Gearbox oil and filter changed at around 140,000km's.
My ownerxship began at just under 200,000km's
new coilovers + 4 wheel alignment (naturally)
2 CV joints
Voltage relay switch
New intercooler hoses
Oil change to 5-40
New battery
Rear luggage door seals replaced (was leaking heavily)
Dension BT Lite
Rear brakes (pads and discs) to do soon
Some issues:-
Door on drivers side needs shutting gently otherwise it "bounces" out again.
Leaky sunroof.
Rear luggage door needs a new lock.
Wind screen washer rear not functionong.
ABS controll unit has a ghost in it that pops up once a week/ish.
Engine is quiet and smooth, no rattles and shakes.
Interior has held up quite well, again no rattling, the cup holder is extremely tempremental and the symbols on the climate controll unit are worn.
Leather is in very good condition - doesn't suffer from the worn side bolsters syndrome that my BMW E61 with 1/3 of the mileage was woefully suffering from.
Paint needs a good recondioning, swirls and scratches in abundance and lots of small chips on the wheel arches and bumper. Still looks good after a wax though.
My whole philosophy for buying this car changed from my prior car (garage queen). I wanted a car I could use all year and if the kids spilled food/drinks it would be ok, the wife could drive it easily in the middle of winter, and it didn't matter if the paint got scratched or chipped. I can honestly say I am enjoying ownership of this car far more than my previous one.....mainly because of its user friendly dynamics.....and torque delivery.
I know the gearbox will go at some stage - but it seems fine at the moment. Obviously you will all know when mine decides to give up the ghost.....

Re: RS6 High Milers
Your drivers side door - I had that!! Just needs the lock replacing, easy to do with a GBP 30 replacement off ebay.
And symbols on climate unit - you can get Stickers (again off ebay) to go over the top - once on, they are invisible and look brand new again.

Thanks Matt. I've ordered the stickers. But what do I look for on ebay if I want the door lock? Could it be so simple as drivers door lock RS6 C5?MattV8 wrote:Your drivers side door - I had that!! Just needs the lock replacing, easy to do with a GBP 30 replacement off ebay.

Re: RS6 High Milers
This is the one I ordered for my passenger side (your drivers, I assume):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A6-4B-C5 ... OC:GB:3160
Double check the part numbers just in case your LHD one is different (you never know with Audi). It's not an OEM part, but both the price and quality were good.

Nice spot Matt, I've just ordered one myself. I was planning on taking it apart and cleaning the micro switch but for £30 I'd rather save the hassle.
Shrick, sounds good mate, I know what you mean about having a car that isn't a garage queen. Something you can actually use and slightly abuse without losing sleep.
Mine's comming together but like yours still has some bits that need doing, I'm getting the wheels refurbed at lepsons, getting the front end re-sprayed, fitting that new door lock, getting new headlights fitted (new headlights fitted with Trups' projector upgrade with 55W ballast), getting led rear lights fitted. I need to give the leather a really good clean too. I use it daily and give it a good thrashing, but I do pamper it as a reward!

How much you paying for the wheel refurb? I know a powdercoaters local to you (southampton) that'll do wheels for 35 quid each - you'll have to get a tyre place to remove and refit though (15 quid per tyre?). Just had my saab wheels done.

Re: RS6 High Milers
Thanks Matt, I haven't got a quote yet. I would go for that except a couple need straightening and some areas on the edge that need filling too so figured I might as well give them to lepsons so I'll get them back like new.
If I need them repainting again though I'll do them through that local place

Re: RS6 High Milers
I bought a driver's door lock off ebay. Didn't think about it until I'd stripped the window off the door got the lock off and then realised that a front right door lock from Europe is their passenger door and no provision for the lever from the key!! As it was all apart I had to get one from TPS for four times the money, fitted it and found out there was nothing wrong with the lock, it was a broken crimp in the wiring loom

That sounds like a lot of bits Si. I have a set of Winter wheels (the Original 18 Audi ones with the logo in the middle) that need to be painted - but I thought I would just plastidip them as they are going to be wearing a set of studded winter tires when it gets colder Oct/Nov time.
For the leather I can reccomend:- "Easy Leather Restoration Kit (Black)" from Furniture Clinic in the UK.....(28 GBP). If you provide the Leather Colour code - I think they can match it..... http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leathe ... Up_Kit.php
Do you mind me asking what price range the light upgrade is costing you...it sounds very tempting.
Thanks

Re: RS6 High Milers
Thanks Shrick, I'll have a look at that leather stuff. I've got a kit with leather cleaner and balm and a brush, I was planning to use it in addition to a steam cleaner too.
Yeah, I wasn't going to go overboard with the wheels but the fact one of them is a bit buckled on the inside edge made me want to get them done properly. And whichever knob "professionally refurbished" them before is a <beep>, looks like they used an angle grinder to grind out deep curb marks, then rattle canned them. *facepalm*.
You'll have to get an up to date price from Trups as it was a while ago i bought the bits and he may have changed brands/suppliers etc. But basically for New projectors with clear lenses, 55W HID ballasts, and decent lamps it worked out low-mid 200 quid range. I hit a snag when i was about to fit it as the adjusters had all stripped out on my old lights, I've got some new halogen ones from an A6 I'm hoping I can transplant all the Xenon stuff into. I should be able to get that done soon, I'll get pics
The new projectors are good in two ways, the chrome eventually flakes off the original reflector bowl, making lights dimmer, and the standard lens is slightly frosted to soften the edge of the beam, but it reduces range.
