If the recovery mob don't have any 'skates' , get yourself 4 x supermarket cage bases, or 'Rollcage' bases.
they make nice skate plates for moving stuff about with. You'll need to jack the car up all round to put one under each wheel , then a few of you can at least push it out of the garage.
I don't know how recovery man is going to get it on the flat bed though lol, but watch he don't try and winch it on with the wheels locked up

Just came across this in the workshop manual. You might want to bear it in mind:
Do not attempt to move a vehicle without the drive shaft fitted as this would result in wheel bearing damage. If a vehicle has to be moved, always heed the following:
– Fit an outer joint instead of the drive shaft.
– Tighten the outer joint to 115 Nm (M14 bolt) or 190 Nm (M16 bolt).
But if you do what RS2 suggests, you should be OK.

Still stuck. Ive been away all week with work so I'll try again at the weekend when Im home. Got the VAGCOM back so I can do a proper diagnosis then too. Stay tuned for more questions and perhaps another video update of my efforts!

So I came back home earlier this afternoon and plugged in the Vagcom to check and see if the brain was recognising what gear the car was in. Its all a bit alien to me so I have added another video for feedback. As far as I can tell it recognises R but nothing else. I heard too a rattling noise which I hadn't heard before

Let me know what you think!

As it turns out, it was recognising the gear changes! I was just looking at the wrong area on the screen.

And it sounds more like a 1.9Tdi than a V8 at the minute

That sounds fairly terrible from the gearbox and I would advise not running it anymore.

These kind of noises are symptomatic of a catastrophic failure within the transmission and running it will limit the chances of it being rebuildable at all.

I know that I keep going on about them but have you spoken to Mark at Chester Transmissions? (01244 537070 as their website seems to be on the fritz) Or for that matter any other good auto transmission specialists?

Mark will probably talk through some possibilities as to what may have happened internally and what the possible outcomes are.

I'm sorry to say it but the transmission sounds like it needs to come out and be rebuilt.

So far as moving it is concerned, just try jacking up one front wheel with a block of wood (big enough to spread to load as not to damage any components) under the suspension on a trolley jack. If you're not sure where to put the jack, get a friend over who does. Then with the handbrake off, see if you can push the car using the jack wheels. You only need to try moving it a couple of inches to see if this will work.

I'm going to wait and see what some of the others think, as I'm no expert and not sure, but did you try changing gears in tiptronic mode ( paddles or stick) whilst the Vagcom was plugged in ? rather than just putting it in drive ( dont know if it will make any difference, just thought it might help someone else analyse it better)

Do like your videos as well as messages which helps to see the problem better.

I'm still baffled as to why you cant move the car at all, I've never had an automatic before that couldn't be pushed

Okay, tried the TripTronic approach. Didn't make much of a difference but I made another video to show what happened. Im happy to try out any other suggestions you all may have. Thanks for all your help so far

Yeah, nothing wrong with your selector cable / switch. Oh well, it was worth a try.

I'm thinking major mechanical failure within the diff. You can hear the car straining. Call some breakdown people, I'm sure they're used to having to move cars with locked wheels.

ITS A MIRACLE!!

Went out today to try and move the car, in a desperate attempt to fool fate. AND IT WORKED!

Was able to push the car right out of the garage without any problems. Plan now is to try and turn the car 180 degrees and reverse it into the garage so it will be easily removed (in D) when the recovery crew arrive.

When I say 'worked' I mean, it knocked out of P. Still No Reverse or drive. All movement was by hand. Still, at least its now moveable

Car was lifted on Monday to be taken to Unit20. Hopefully Grizz can diagnose the problem and fix it. It is booked in for a gearbox rebuild on the 27th June, as this is what i think it requires. I'll let you know when i hear any more back from Grizz
