Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric version 2 would not fit without an angle grinder to de-knobble.

Well the time has come to buy some new tyres and after reading all the advice on tyre fitment on this site, I've decided to remove the knobbly bit on my car to give me some more options. Namely i'm wanting to give the michelin pilot super sports a go after hearing nothing but good things about them.

Anyway here are the result. (excuse the pictures, they were taken with my phone in my very badly lit garage)

Before grinding

The grinder I used. (Well not so much a grinder but you know what I mean)

The reason I used this type of flap wheel on a drill rather than an angle grider, is to try and keep any sharp edges down to a minimum to try and prevent any sress fractures appearing.

I'll report back on the tryes once they have been fitted, and I've given them a good run in.

I'll be interested to see how you rate the PSS. I've heard only good things about them from the RS4 boys.

2 years ago, I bought Lamborghini Gallardo wheels, and fitted to an RS6. It is not an easy fit, but it is possible :)

It´s not a good picture, sorry...

Well been running with the super sports now for a few month (done a couple of thousand mile) and I've got to say I'm pretty happy with them. low road noise, good grip in the dry as can be expected but in the wet these tires really are good. Granted the ones I took off the car were pretty much bald and not matched front and rear (previous owner not me) but I'd recommend them and will definitely be buying them again. The brother in law is going to have them fitted to his M5 next so I'll see if he's of the same opinion as me

Don't think they will last to long as they feel a really soft compound so I'm expecting somewhere around 7000 miles but I really only use the car for 6 months anyway so that doesn't bother me.

next purchase a set of coil overs as the DRC has just given up the ghost. Audi have said it may just need a recharge but I figure to hell with it.

If the PSS is anything like the PS2 you should get decent life out of them. I've done around 20k miles on a set of rears and only changed the fronts because of damage. Still plenty of meat left on the rears, too.

I don't know if the PS2 is still availabe. Did you hear anything about this when you were researching tyres?

When I was looking, the PS2's were only £10 per tyre cheaper so having heard only good things about the PSS I decided to try something new.

Just had a quick on camskill and the PS2's are still showing in stock so looks like they are still available.

Yeah, I spoke to Michelin UK and they said they had no plans to stop production of the PS2. Maybe they are OE on too many cars...

I've not seen these listed, so here goes.

My 2003 RS6 has Falken FK452 tyres (255/35 ZR19 96Y Extra Load) - and those miss the knob by about 5mm. Not sure I really like the tyres though, a lot of road noise from some types of surfaces.

Any more reports on these tyres? Work mate uses these on his corvette he's no complaints?
Comments?

Michelin Pilot Super Sport 275/30/19 foul if the knobbly isn't ground down and this is on aftermarket alloys that I think possibly sit out further from the arm than the OE 19's but I could quite possibly be talking out of my bottom on that one.

Just fitted 265/30/20 Michelin Pilot Sports on my C6 wheels successfully with a 5mm spacer up front. Much better than the Contis I had previously.

Ok but just to be clear, without the spacers is there fouling and do you still have the knobbles or have you ground them down?

The spacer is to stop them fouling despite having already filed down the knobbly bit. Also helps cosmetically as the wheel sits flush with the arch nicely.

Two questions people regarding 255/35/19 tyres

Do all RO1 fittment tyres not knobble on the RS6, or is it specific to certain brands?

Also I guess wheel spacers up the front would alleviate any problems? Is this correct? What widths of spacer and or any comments do people have who use them?

Cheers
