Rich, pulled the zf8hp info from wikipedia, knew they are using it in the 400bhp rangerover.

Grizz has been a member over there since '07, he's read it all no doubt.
There just aren't that many slushbox specialists over here. Tozo is the man though, he can drop a box in 3-4hrs without engine out, need to fly that genius over here to unleash his skills.

They are all at it now the yanks, taking box out in a few hours. Hopefully Grizz and Doug and others will follow suit and save us all a few quid.

It (the box) really is an issue that needs a long lasting solution finding as its the major problem with these cars once the DRC is gone.

Agreed but who wants to go first with a modified 'box?

A friend of mine dropped the box out of a 4.2 A6 (not rs6) and replaced within in the day, say's he didn't have to remove the engine, Can't remember the full story but i think he had to drop the subframe and rear end?

To be fair a gearbox 3k+vat isn't too bad as it comes with a 2 year warranty and new torque converter, all we need is get the labour down to 10 hours and we'd be laughing

But for now it's stick with the tried and tested method, when mine goes it will be off to Grizz.

Am tempted though to try and locate a worn box at the right price and send it off to the states for a full rebuild/upgrade. Sure i saw one going for about £500 a few weeks back and it was claimed to be ok

If Tozo can do it, why can't grizz or MRC? Just wondering. Do the yanks have special tooling?

Ha, you can also make it burp by setting the Cruise control at 70 mph in D, then slow down to about 20 mph and hit resume!

DON'T do it in roadworks...... The car goes into limp mode! and simple restart will correct it and nothing gets logged!

In part a funny thread to read....
Later in the year I'm intending to have a box rebuilt with beefed up parts, where available for the 5HP24A box, however it will be done in Australia where they have a good idea, like the yanks with the auto boxes. Fundamentally the internals of the box are fine for handling more power. The 2 speed powerglide is a classic example where the yanks can turn a 300hp box into a 1000hp+ work of art, ok a lot of hardware is replaced and not much original is left, but they are bullet proof. I don't think there is anyone out there wanting to use a transbrake, so there shouldn't be a problem doing hard launches in 1st, providing the box/converter is healthy. If I'm wrong I'll argue the box was already on it's way out...

It is just a pitty there are no (or difficult to find) experts for a beefed up auto in europe. Sending a box to the States is an option, but cost of shipping adds up and if something goes wrong and warranty is called upon then it's a nightmare.

Never tried hitting resume on the cruise at 20, will have to try that!!
