I like the fact that the most powerful car I have ever owned was the vectra lol !! and it was the biggest engine!! Mind you the Lotus was a lot faster. But bring on the RS6. As my mate says there is no replacement for engine displacement !!!!
Aha, I suspected you were the chap that used to sell closed air filters for Elises on Seloc and fleabay - too much of a coinscidence given the username :)

Here goes:
1995 passed test at the age of 20 and didn't muck about; I went straight into an extremely powerful car - the fastest on the road at the time if I recall: Nissan Cherry 1.3 SGL :rocker: (the SGL part is extremely important as it meant I had a rev counter - lol!)

After this I had the following but can't give exact dates:

Nissan Cherry (first car)
Montego 1.6L (for work)
Montego 1.6L (both very, very nasty and engine technology dating back to the 60's I've been told)
Rover 400 (bubble shape 416Si) on which I spent a ridiculous amount of money on Head work, mad cams, straight through exhaust, induction kit etc. etc. etc. - and after all that, was just about as quick as the equivalent 420GSi so was hardly bloody worth it!! Would have been far cheaper to just buy the bubble-shape 420 in the first place!
Rover Coupe Turbo (Jap spec, rare FDH plate with full leather, air-con etc.)
Rover Coupe Turbo
Rover Coupe VVC (which, after fitting a K&N induction kit, made a fantastic sound!)
Citroen ZX Aura Estate 1.9 TD (for work)
Audi A6 1.8T (which didn't last the trip home from the dealer!)
Replaced above immediately at dealer with a Nissan 200SX, which was frankly lethal in the wet!
VW Golf Mk4 Estate 1.9 PD130 TDI (work mainly)
Audi A6 4.2
Audi S8 Final Edition (D2 platform) - which I still really, really miss after over a year with the RS6 plus!! :?
Audi RS6 Plus - fast, head-turning, loud, but somehow not as special as the S8 - it's hard to explain but think it is to do with the handling and feel of the S8 - you could really 'feel' what was going on underneath you and that made it a real joy to drive everytime. The RS6 helm is pretty numb, even with coilovers I'm afraid..

Where do I go from here??

That's easy: Will most likely be the current (D3 platform) Audi S8 with carbon ceramic brakes hopefully (and once used prices drop - alot). And just have a listen to this - it's a D3 S8 with a full Milltek and is THE best sound I have EVER heard from a car, period:

Wonder how it'd compare to the '6...

FCUK me that sounded sweet ! the S8 would be lovely, all that luxury and exclusivity . . .

The RS 6 is hardly something you can swing round country bends and you wouldnt miss much on the S8 but you would gain so much, and its 450bhp isnt it? albeit without the turbos

excellent thread!

1. Peugeot 305 (v old, not whats around today)
2. MG Maestro 2.0 (lol)
3. Lancia Delta HF Turbo (wrote off in a blaze of glory)
4. Lancia Delta Integrale 16v (figured with 4WD less chance of stacking)
5. Lancia Delta Integrale 16v (cough, see above)
6. Peugeot 206 GTI-6 (first company car, great fun actually)
7. TVR Griffith 500 (first foray into real grunt)
8. Audi S4
9. Audi 2.8 Q Tip (lost job, PXed S4, this got wrote off ....)
10. Audi 1.8 Q T

and, when I find the right one, next car defo (almost) gonna be the RS6.

Of all that, the TVR by far is the scariest thing i've driven and the S4 easily the best all round motor. My thinking/hoping is that the RS6 will combine the power of the griff with the refinement of the S4.

MoRS6+. OT but I had the 5.2 V10 but in S6 guise.
Its a gem of an engine mate and well and truly recommended.
Instant power always on tap, revvy, and sounds like an F1 car on WOT with a milltek !
And 100% reliable wIth no issues of turbo lag, box problems, DRC issues, heatsoak etc etc
Loved it.

Interesting!

Went to a car meet from another forum recently where Craigyb was there and was just a tad jealous of his carbon ceramics equipped S8! It's a gorgeous car and the sound - oh the sound....

drools...

very interesting - - - im contemplating an S6 or RS 4 next as bout similar price, slightly offput the RS 4 due to some of its problems, i.e. DRC, carbon build up etc

Know what you mean. Be nice to buy a car without design floors such as DRC and carbon build-up. Hang on, isn't the V10 an FSI unit? Wonder if it suffers from carbon build-up :?:

BigMo how would you compare the P1 with the RS6 for straightline speed?

There is one near me and I have blasted round him a couple times but not known if he was trying or maybe caught him unawares.

Between my decatted P1 and the RS6 there wasn't much in it. 0-30 the 6's autobox and tc certainly will lick it. From there the 6 keeps ahead by 2 or 3 car lengths to 100 then then the 6s warp core goes into transwarp mode. It all depends on the Scooby's state to tuning. Mine was 320bhp but I have a friend who's 400 horse will lick mine (by a smidgen) to 120. It's amazing what you can achieve in these jap rice cookers with a bit of Borg technology.

I'd say give him a try, where permitted. You'll never know.

Aha! A fellow Star Trek fan!

hehe, me like transwarp drive on the 'plus', but yeah, those pesky Borg add-ons make me nervous...

lol!

Borg, Ba'ku, Cardassians, all bad. Send them back to the Delta Quadrant I say! Audi dealers are Ferengi. Nuff said.
