I have just had an rnse mk2 unit with the facias swapped over from an A3 into my B6 S4 and OE Bluetooth fitted by Nigel. Very pleased with it.

Careful with your multi-function wheel Shopp - although it's on the CANBus I'd check the messages it sends are the same as something you can code the RNS for. Not a problem for us with the 3 spoke wheels, but I can see it could be an issue if you're relying on integration with your wheel...

Wouldn't a problem on a pre-2010 RNS-E. Again, there's the question of how compatible the post-2010 RNS-E are with the C5 platform.

I don't think I want an RNS-E enough to bother with the hassle, but I admit the challenge of getting it to work attracts me more than actually having the thing in the first place. :)

Still looking at compatibility issues with the post-2010 version. Looks like it doesn't use the GALA signal from the car. It must use speed info from the CAN bus on later cars.

Those who have put the pre-2010 RNS-E, did you connect up the GALA?

Footers, do you know what was done on your for the speed signal?

The only RNS D to E swap I've done was on my S8, and I'd forgot to connect the Gala up, the icon didn't move when I drove around, pulled it out, hooked it up, after a few hundred yards it had calibrated with it connected, and the icon moved straight away once gala was hooked up even though it thought it was a few streets away for the first few mins.

Footers me old fruit, I know you've got other priorities at the mo, but did you manage to do this before your car went into storage?

Sorry chaps, I simply haven't got around to hooking the laptop up to the car. Not in storage yet. Having some recent cold start issues with the S3 too where a few seconds after starting up she sounds like she goes down to firing on 3/2 cylinders tops then corrects herself so I really do need slap Vagisil on both and get you your info.

I do like the s3, I've just had new cat, lambdas and disc & pads on the a4, and think I need a hatchback for work, maybe an s3 is the way to go!

I only ask footers as I'm looking at the led rnse on the bay, they're all under £600 which is good for me, but I want to make sure I get the right model, and if I get an a3 one, if it's straightforward to change fascias and recode it myself.

Well, I went to scan both the S3 for faults and the 6 for these codes people are after and it appears that my mint condition, 15 month old VCDS cable that is kept in a box and hasn't been used for at least 4 months has fecking died!!!!! Total uninstall of software on my laptop and reinstall, dongle won't talk to either car. Installed it on another laptop, installed software, same result. No LED on the dongle to indicate any form of connection to the car.

12 month warranty. To say that I am pissed off currently with everything else going on doesn't come close.

Contacted the supplier, explained that I had used the cable about 20 times since I bought it and hadn't used it for about 4 months or so. Got back an expected polite reply with things to try but no ifs no buts on the 12 month warranty. They have told me that if I registered the cable with Ross-Tech (no idea), then the offer a fixed price out of warranty repair, which works out a "bit" cheaper and buying a new cable.

Port is providing current so that confirms that the Dongle is borked according to them.

I am fuming right now. Haven't got the money to waste on repairing it so soon after buying it and with very little use, don't have the time to wait sending it off to Yankland if they will even repair it and get raped on that too no doubt and I would rather stab a monkey then have to pay for another fecking expensive cable again through no fault of my own.

HULK SMASH!
