Are there no uprated friction materials available?

I guess the major problem is the weight of the car and overcoming inertia.

I've been very sensible with caring for my box (oooh err etc) and have never done any drag starts (yet) as this (IMO) is what kills them.

Lol. Good point !

I'll just re-phrase that.

If a DSG solution which could handle 550+ could be found I'd be interested as it would (could?) be simpler than a manual conversion.

I know our current zf box is pony but they have launched an 8 speed Zf8hp which I believe they do in dsg, see blurb below

Future development will see two four-wheel drive versions available, with version destined for Volkswagen Group applications, using a Torsen centre differential. It will be able to encompass a torque range from 300 newton metres (221 ft·lbf) to 1,000 newton metres (738 ft·lbf), and will be available for use in middle class cars, through to large luxury sport utility vehicles.

Replace the box with a generator and stick 4 300HP electric hub motors on. 2000Nm at 0 RPM...

Probably about as realistic as putting a bentley box in, and much more fun :)

Level 10 Audi Vw PTS Bulletproof Torque Converter (Built From Scratch) 4HP19,5HP19,5HP24
Our Price: $1,098.00.

Level 10 PTS Audi Vw Bulletproof Transmission (Built From Scratch) 4HP19,5HP19,5HP24
Our Price: $5,998.00

If this is for an RS6 it isn't really unreasonable at £4,407.00.

Less tax and shipping etc etc.

When (rather than if) mine goes I will be looking at this rather than the standard Audi replacement.

That looks interesting, where did you find that info?

Plus 24+ hours worth of "engine out" labour and no warranty for the Level10 'box. Shipping could be interesting.

It's when all is weighed up that the Audi replacement is the safest option... next time though...

Got to explore all possibilities though as the standard box is only going to turn its self inside out again at some point.

Anyone have any experience of the Level 10 Box ?

Probably a better question to ask on one of the U.S. Forums I guess.

Sorry for the naive question but just to give me an idea of how to care for the box, exactly why and which stage(s) of a drag start stresses out the box? Is it the change from 1st to 2nd or also all that early inertia and torque kick straining the box. Or. . .something else?

Just so I know like. . .

^^ The very begining, get it rolling then stomp on it and always make sure the 'box warmed up first. At least 15-20mins of driving.

All the torque convertor and gearbox questions are answered at rs6.com, the yanks are years ahead of us when it comes to slush boxes. Look for posts by tozom8, if i was in the states he would be the one i go to for new gearbox and torque convertor.

I wonder if Grizz or Doug could find out what he does to the boxes and do it to ours and also get some uprated torque convertors?
