Jeez everybody seems to be on edge in hear. Chill people. I still haven't seen a good response yet other than these cars dont do well with just sitting. Is this true? The question was pretty basic. If I'm using the car for the weekends only and drive about 5k miles a year. What cost am I looking at given I buy a solid car?

I bought my plus in jan, to date I have spent just under £6k

£3500 on new suspension, arms, bushes and new arb's

£1700 on getting the bodywork/ wheels where I want it,

£200 on new boost hoses

£100 new wiper blades

£130 on a level sensor

£300 on odds and sods bits.

And next week is the second service and new boots all round, but that's normal wear and tear on any car.

I had my doubts a few months ago, but done a fair few miles now, and it's worth every penny!

And this is just my weekend car, done 1200 miles in it now.
I used to own a 6, now I'm just a lurker!

No it's not true that you haven't seen a good response, you just haven't used the search function have you? Go on, admit it, you have been lazy haven't you!!!!!

Take it my first post was no good to you?
Your question is a pretty bloody crap one to be honest. How do we know what will go wrong with the car?
I said how much mpg you could be getting but that all depends on how you drive so how are you going to drive it?????
Tyres- i gave you an idea of prices.
Servicing- shop around lazy boy and get quotes

What else you want to know?

also, the above posts from bum_bum and Amar were kind of in jest. Both of them are fighting for promotion to top spelling sniper

"These cars don't do well with just sitting" - true.

"The question was pretty basic" - yes, so we've worked just as hard on our answers as you did your question.

"If I'm using the car for the weekends only and drive about 5k miles a year. What cost am I looking at given I buy a solid car?" - If I'm using a piece of string for the weekends only and I pluck about 5 threads a year. What cost am I looking at given I buy a solid piece of string?

My advice; kick about on the forum and learn how to do a search, get a 'feel' of ownership, then make a decision based on what you know.

Enjoy!

Honestly, the question you're asking is almost impossible to answer.

When i bought mine about 18months ago, i had receipts of around £8k being spent on it 1 month before the sale. It included gearbox work and 2 turbos.

Around 3 months ago, i had to re-con the turbos and gearbox!

I've done loads of other small things to it too.

DV's, N245, the other actuator things, MAF Plugs, intercoolers, bottom arm, tyres, abs sensor, brake light switch etc.. There's more but i can remember off the top of my head.

Rubbish response Sid. You haven't said if you ever use your car or not on a weekend. :)
