Nipped out at lunch to see a Daytona RS6 at a local-ish dealer.

Nice car, looks to be in excellent condition - just a quick once over - and at a pretty good price.

Does come with indy Warranty; I've just spend a few minutes doing some research on the warranty provider. Christ! Scared myself half to death reading the horror stories and typical avoidance tactics employed by these cowboys. So, what have we learned...Audi warranty is a must have!
Is it the one at Fontains?
That's the one. Nice looking car, the chap was friendly and helpful. I have read some less than favourable things about those chaps though and did get the old 'to our knowledge' line. Do you know the car or the dealer?

SL55 - mate of mine has been looking, I did some research on it for him and found some horror reliability issues and monster repair bills - £15K!! - for some poor fella who didn't have a MB warranty. Scary stuff.
Bought my 'Plus' there.

There are mixed feelings about these chaps, but for me personally, they were very good.

They could have pissed me about, but just didn't. When the DRC failed after literally 3 weeks, they just threw their hands up and said 'Yes Sir, 3 leaking shocks.. We can replace the whole lot for a H&R coilover kit for free' to which I promptly agreed.

Car was transformed afterwards and the coilovers were fitted very well. When I went to Wheels-InMotion to have a full geo done, Tony commented how perfect the ride-heights were and he didn't have to touch them.

So for me, they were ok, but then I just think they treated me slightly better because I had already bought an S8 off them and then bought the RS6 plus - so I think they saw me as a good customer (either that or they bought the RS6 plus for good money and the coilys didn't make a dent in the profit..or both).

I ask you, would Audi offer to do that? No, just repeated demoralising trips for remedial (DRC) work.

I see they are only offering a 3-months warranty on this car - strange as I had a 12-month one on mine and that was only back in Feb. 08.

Interesting Mo. Have you had the need to use the warranty? There are scary stories on the net about Warranty 2000, but I guess those that have been slighted are always more vocal than those who have been served well.

I just want to get it right and do right by the car; when I had my M3 I always renewed the BMW warranty, used it once in 4 years; but I religiously took her to Sytner for everything, even a light-bulb change. I just have the attitude that serious cars need serious care and the owner should provide that; as DK and the previous owners of 'Darth' have, to be fair.

I only had to use the warranty for the DRC failure and the MFSW (multi-function steering wheel) where the buttons were a bit dicky. The car didn't do anything else wrong in that whole year. I paid top-whack for mine, but it only had just under 10k on the clock (still only has 24k on it) and was like brand-new apart from that damned DRC. So not really what I would call a conclusive test of the Warranties2000 jobbie.

I can't steer you in any particular direction; merely that my own experience with Fontain was ok.

I suppose at the end of the day the decision is actually made more difficult by the sheer choice of used RS6s at the moment.

At least you are getting plenty of feedback and are consequently able to make an informed decision - something naive and compulsive buyers neglect to do at their peril.

DK's car does however seem like a good deal and includes an Audi warranty.

I guess it depends on how many miles on the clock you prefer, the colour, the type of warranty and type of vendor - private or trade.

Good luck with your search,

Mo.

Thanks again Mo, plenty of food for thought there. Much appreciated.

I had a chat with Rob from Camberley Audi today - what a very helpful chap - and he gave me some useful advice and pointers about cars and warranties. So, I'll be taking heed of that; they'll be getting my service business I think.

I'll update in here as and when I have some further news.

Back to the grindstone!

Quick update

Saw another RS6; the dealer was honest enough the say that their health check showed the DRC was leaking at 2 corners - they are gonna bin it and put KW coilovers on it before someone buys it. Good thing?

Rob at Camberley tells me that DRC is excellent when sorted - the key word here is 'when' methinks.

edit - evidently I can't spell 2 letter words

when and while. Throw in a briefly :p

KW are good, but you have to remove them to adjust the settings. Weird.

I spoke with Rob earlier this week. They have still not had any cars with the Mk3 DRC back to replace bits......

Getting it fitted by a dealer/tech who really knows their stuff is essential - Stuart does!

Dave

PS - I wonder if his Fiat has DRC.....

I'll never do it, I'll pay someone to set it up to suit the car and that'll be it

I had a GSXR600 once with adjustable this and that, royally buggered that up before I realised I wasn't Valentino Rossi.

I genuinely believe that the C5 RS 6 was the guinea pig

As the B7 RS 4 and C6 RS 6 both have DRC, I believe there is no option for Audi BUT to have fix for it, which hopefully they have (I have a vested interest now iv an RS 4)
