Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Doofuss that’s great news. Mine also has the aux cooling. Pleased you got yours sorted with what looks like a quality item at a good price.
Well done mate.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Doofuss Many thanks for the valued information.
Shopp apparently the new aluminium rad was a great fit. Installer had to manufacture two mounting brackets.
I will be giving serck a call when I have finished at unit 20.
Hopefully they still have the details of manufacture.
Does look like a really good rad from the pictures doofuss provided.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Hi guys,
unfortunately I'm now also in the situation I have to source a new radiator for my car. I've checked with Serck and they still can deliver but the asked price is now £1,794 which is a bit up from the £900 mentioned previously in this post.
I'm therefore considering other options, which is the 4B3121251E version of the radiator which is available for less than £200. This is identical except it doesn't have the extra pipe for the afterrun pump.
Shoppint wrote "You can change the plumbing so that it circulates like the early 2003 cars and always let your turbos cool down to 90 degrees which you should be doing *anyway*.
Anyone have information on how the plumbing of the early 2003 cars was done so I can consider this solution.
Thanks

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
When I bought my car it had the cheaper radiator fitted and it looked to of been fairly recent.
The hose that should connect to the radiator from the after run pump was just blocked off I later found.
This is when I learnt about the differences in radiators.
I had decided I'd try and source a good used spare and in the meantime if I was mechanically sympathetic then the after run pump probably wouldn't kick in or be necessary anyway.
I ran the car like that for a couple of years.
I got lucky and found a second hand rad and I've since fitted it during my engine out job. It's not been filled and tested yet but It looks to be in good condition.
In your position I'd just buy a cheap rad for now. Block the afterrun pipe up and look for a good used correct spare in the mean time.
Took me two years to find one though I warn you!

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
I purchased a new radiator from AT.
Mine didn’t have the extra fitting.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Can the original radiator with the after run pipe be refurbished anywhere?

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Thanks Shoppinit for the drawings.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem straightforward to convert to the pre 2003 plumbing.
On the post 2003 drawing it's not shown the flow direction trought the turbos. I assume it is because the flow direction is both ways. From the radiator trough valve 11 and the pump 8 to the turbos when the engine is stopped.
And from the turbos through the pump 8 (not running) and then through the one way valve 9 back into the engine when the engine is running. Valve 11 is then closed.
If this is correct I'll have to find a way to tap into the bottom hose from the radiator to supply water to valve 11.
I'll look into it in more detail later.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Yeah. I seem to remember that the after run pump circulates in the opposite direction to normal flow, too.
I’m not sure how much I trust those arrows either. The whole job seems a bit amateurish.
I’d definitely want to confirm some of the directions. Last thing you want to do is starve the turbos of coolant.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Maybe I am late to the conversation or maybe (quite likely) I haven't digested the whole multi-page thread but... every time in the past I've had the need for a unique radiator I have always found an outfit that makes custom radiators and sent them the original to duplicate. Here in the USA, for instance, I have always been served well by Be Cool (https://www.becool.com/). Despite its name, their work is quite good.
Again, sorry about my perceived cowboy approach to this thread but, might the same template be applied to the U.K.?

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Yeah, that’s definitely an avenue worth exploring. There are plenty of places that make bespoke rads.

Re: Can’t source a radiator!
Yes the flow to the turbos is reversed from normal operation once the engine is off. So coolant is drawn through the turbos by the after run pump
