Just for fun I thought I would post this here as I had already posted some stuff about my allroad in this topic. This is the continued restoration of my allroad! Between April and May I decided to give it a bit of an overhaul / refresh – I also did a repaint of the external plastics – bumpers, etc. I used satin black instead of the horrible grey colour it was originally. I removed the rear subframe to allow much more concentrated grit blasting as it was heavily corroded and required some welding. I did tons of work to bring the car up to ‘near new’ condition including replacing the leaking front suspension airbags, front wheel bearings, refurbished brakes and brake lines etc. and re-furbishing / re-building everything I could. The list of work was pretty huge and I spent probably 300 hours+ getting everything completed!!! I must be mad as it is just my daily driver and didn’t really need this much attention (I suppose!)…. Anyway, below is a big selection of pictures of the entire process.

Extremely satisfying photo thread. Thanks for posting.

I like the colour scheme. Needs Audi rings on the bootlid, though.

RS6 calipers? Noice.

What paint did you use on the plastics, and are you confident it won't flake off in the style of a Lidl-carpark-cruiser special?

What's this plastic thing? - looks like a brake cooling duct, but on the rear? Perhaps better for towing?

I could possibly adapt those to my track car.

Excellent work, btw! :notworthy:

Thanks! That's a stone guard to prevent damage to the air suspension valve on the shock absorber, ABS cable etc when off-roading. I think the RS6 has the holes to accommodate the same, you would just need to install rivnuts or similar to get them to fit. Mind you, most RS6's don't tend to go off road on purpose :)

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, RS6 front and rear calipers with Phaeton rear discs and my old Movit 380mm front discs that used to be on my RS6. The allroad also has Hotchkis ARB's which make a huge difference.
The paint was Lechler brand satin black that is meant to be flexible enough for bumpers etc. I used the same stuff on the roof and tailgate and so far so good. The only other prep i did was to apply special plastic primer to any of the bare plastic on the bumpers etc when I was prepping them.
Agreed about the missing rings. I will need to get a new one off eBay and get it installed - I think I damaged the original when I removed it from the tailgate. I also like the colour - I've always though that black and silver was a nice combination and the hideous grey they use on allroads has always spoiled how they look to me.

I like it a lot, put avus Audi rings on the rear and the front. I've fit avus rings on the front of mine, it's subtle but I know it's there.

Jesus that corrosion on the subframe and suspension arms, did the previous owner park it in the sea?

Well done with the effort. Love a good resto thread. Echo what bilko said about the corrosion

I've just bought a bottle of Raceglaze Alubright. It works absolute wonders on corroded aluminium (may work on other metals too), and 30 seconds of agitating and the ally comes out looking lovely. Strong stuff though! (as recommended by a professional detailer on Twitter - Richard Tipper @ perfection valet)
