RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
Just noticed that GSF are doing a 50% off marked price this weekend and
came across this stuff.
That would be a fiver a litre
http://m.gsfcarparts.com/980aa1850
Says it's the same colour a conforms to the numbers.
Does anyone one know who makes this.

Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
Marked price is 17 quid a liter, though. Amazon are selling 5 liters for 46 quid.
I came across a datasheet for it that mentioned Exxon Mobil, but it's not proof that they refined it.

Sorry, should have said I was basing it on buying the 5 litre tub
Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
OK. I was wrong anyway, Amazon are doing it for 32 for 5 liters.

Sorry, should have said I was basing it on buying the 5 litre tub, even though it says 1ltr, once you click is says five litres
Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
At 23 quid for 5 liters, it's a bargain. Whether you'd want to put it in an RS6, that's debatable.

According to the specs, it seems to have the same viscosity index[/quote]

Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
@Sweegie - do you have any evidence, or inkling, that the Motul stuff is better than the stock stuff?

Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
I did take the plunge, looks and smells like the Mobil 1ltre bottle I have. Same thin consistency too. Although I haven't done the flush yet. Away to Europe for a week but hopefully get on it when I return.
Re: RS6 C5 Gearbox oil choices
No Matt, as I recon the original fluid is good too. I don't think the Motul is any worse though, and certainly not a problem to use (by my experience).
I had the advantage of getting a 60 litre drum for a little over £200

I recon the secret is regular fluid changes, and making sure everything is warmed up nicely before unleashing the fury!

"making sure everything is warmed up nicely before unleashing the fury!" Trouble is, after a <beep> day at work, it's sometimes the only way to leave the office.....

Plus I previously had an s6 that had the A clutch failure. When opening the box up everything was pristine (apart from the clutch basket obviously) and that motor had done 180k at that point with four recorded fluid changes.
Warming things up first, always seems to make things ride better- isn't that the rule of life!

I'm about to change my box oil and filter and was looking at the Motul multi ATF from Opie, but the Opie spec sheet PDF does not mention Lifeguard 5, however if you Google Motul Multi ATF a different PDF spec sheet comes up which is far more comprehensive and lists ZF Lifeguard 5. Are there two versions of this fluid or two different spec sheets? I'd like to use this fluid if it is as good as you say as it's also a good price and fully synthetic whereas the lifeguard 5 stuff is only semi. Just don't want to get the wrong stuff. Also does anyone else use Motul in their RS6 box and if not why?
Thanks, Richard.
