That's great news. I hope its still in good nick. Please keep us updated. I hope the rozzers catch the culprits and that they are prosecuted. Why did it take so long for Tracker to find it though?

If you don't mind saying in open forum which tracker subscription do you have and was it the same one as on the scooby that was recovered more quickly

I can't really say too much in open forum as to why there appears to be a disparity in performance however both tracking devices performed exactly the same. Absolutely no difference between them. The devices were Scorpion and Tracker.
I've seen my 6 earlier. It had only been driven point to point.
So had been parked up from approx 30 mins after the theft.
As for damage its minimal.
The front right corner had clipped something lightly with slight paint damage and a crack in the bumper by the headlight washer.
Also the rear near side wheel had been curbed.
Interior light bulbs removed and false plates affixed.

I've been relatively lucky, however the police yard for the West Midlands and Warks have pointed out to me that the vast majority of stolen recovered cars they see are of the RS variety.
Apparently last month they had 10 RS in a week mostly 5's though.
Current:
2004 RS6 Avant, 1999 Range Rover, 2008 Iveco Daily (faster than the 6 hands down)
Past:
2008 Jaguar XK, 2006 S4 Avant, 2009 Mini Cooper S (Wifey's daily drive)

It seems to me that the difference in the two systems is that Scorpion appear to actively track the vehicle themselves once the car is reported stolen. Their website suggests that once alerted they liaise with police ,tracking the vehicle and guiding police to the vehicle until recovery.
Tracker on the other hand once informed boost the signal on the stolen vehicle but then it's down to pot luck whether police tracker equipped cars/ helicopters happen across the signal and then track and find the vehicle.
Anyone know any different to this ?

Thanks for the heads up, and very sorry to hear of this.
Being local this is concerning, wondering best way to secure, PM suggestions welcome....
On a possibly related note, neighbour had his 450bhp Scooby in a birmingham garage last week, got a call at midnight a week ago from Police, they had just chased and caught it on M42, persuaded it to crash, was doing speeds up to 170!! Its written off but they caught the bloke - a mechanic at said garage!

The Scorpion only uses the GPS signal hence they track this and direct police. Dependant on the type of thieves and their purpose they can jam GPS signals dependent on the type of technology they have. Most won't have this type of kit!!!

The Tracker dependant on the version you have fitted uses GPS, GSM (Mobile Phone Network) and VHF. The GPS and GSM allow active tracking. Therefore they can pinpoint the area for the police. The VHF is the signal that the police track with the helicopters and cars so they can actively locate both visually and with their equipment hence its a more comprehensive system. The Cat 5 plus is more expensive than other fits but as with everything in life you get what you pay for!

I after this experience would recommend the Cat 5 plus every day of the week. I like the fact that Tracker can track from their control room and that the Police have the ability to track from their patrol cars / helicopters as it's not the control room that has situational awareness on the ground when locating.

In London the helicopter no longer has any tracking equipment fitted to it!!!!

You are relying on a small percentage of patrol cars that actually have the equipment fitted. Then you have to hope that they are not assigned to some other call which takes priority, before they can actually start to look for the car with the tracker signal!

Yeah, but if you were a copper, what would you prefer... domestic violence call or high speed pursuit? :boots:

The lure of the tracker signal has got to be very, very difficult to resist.

Tracker vhf receivers are also fitted in static locations. Some even on top of lamp posts and motorway gantries.
GPS signals trivial to jam. eBay sell them for 10quid for example. GPS is like looking a candle 20 miles away.

Personally as someone who has an investment in a company selling gps trackers if you want to get the car back then VHF is the better option.
Under normal circumstances gps is fine but does have weaknesses.

Whatever system you go for just make sure it's not fitted in the normal space as its bloody easy to find.

Which one you prefer to go to, and which one you get sent to is completely different. Unfortunately :(
