What is the BMW version of Vagcom Shop? BMW seem to have lots of different diagnostic hardware and software depending on year and model. I could do with one for my E61 as the adaptive headlights are having a moment :)

Yeah, I hear you. It's a nightmare trying to figure out which one to use. I get the impression it's DIS / SSS, but I haven't experimented yet. I bought a cheapo cable off ebay with all the different versions so I can see which one works the best. I wish there was a direct Vagcom equivalent. This is what I bought:

Thanks, :beerchug: shame that item you bought needs a serial port, I don't think i've got a working pc or laptop with one of those anymore.

I know. I couldn't find a decent looking one with USB connection. I took the risk and got a serial one since I've already got a USB-RS232 adapter. Not ideal, but if the worst comes to the worst, I've got PCs with serial ports that I can drag outside if necessary. I didn't want to spend any money on it until I had a better idea of the way forward.

BTW, I saw that some people were using slightly modified Vagcom cables. There must be a usb solution if you look for one.

The key is the right serial to USB adapter. The ones with inboard controllers tend to work better.

Finished deadwood last night. Talk about an anticlimactic ending! Still, it's a pretty good series if you can get over the vaguely Shakespearean dialogue and ignore the narrative devices used to allow each character their monologues.

Got any more recommendations? Anyone?

Here is the tenuous link to the topic: too wet for RWD today.

It's the olde worldy dialogue that I loved. It's a let down because the series creator/writer wanted out halfway through the second series instead of completing the full 5 series. He agreed to finish the third and write a feature length TV movie for fans but reneged, <beep>.

Damages.
Californication.
Hell on Wheels.
Walking Dead.
Dexter.
Mad Men.
Early seasons of "Fringe".
Raising Hope - I find it short and amusing in the same league as "Better Off Ted" or "My Name Is Earl" (same creator).
Last two seasons of "Boardwalk Empire" were exceptional.
"Sherlock" has some ok concepts and good writing.
"Luther" is awesome, watch it.
"Homeland" is a slow burn and 'ok'.
"Girls" is good (ashamed to say) and very well written, in a neurotic, jewish, Woody Allen kinda way.
No matter where you go, there you are.

That explains the change of pace halfway through. Who would have thought Lovejoy would be so good in that?
bam_bam wrote: Damages.
First season brilliant. 2nd season it's like they fired the writers and hired some retarded monkeys to script the intrigue. Didn't make it through the 2nd series, binned the 3rd without watching any.

Superb. Gotta love Duchovny doing what he does best. Acting as himself.

Cool. Will give these a try.
bam_bam wrote: Dexter.
Genius. Good concept, good acting.
bam_bam wrote: Mad Men.
Didn't really get on with it. The characters were bland and 2 dimensional. And I didn't like any of them. Except for the gay one who disappeared after a while. Just about made it through 4 seasons.

Started off brilliantly, then suddenly and unexpectedly went Tommy Cooper from that episode with the news reporter. Gave up after 2 consecutive episodes like that.
bam_bam wrote: "Sherlock" has some ok concepts and good writing.
Mmmmm. Lucy Liu... I realised after about 5 episodes that Sherlock was Sickboy. He's good.
bam_bam wrote: "Luther" is awesome, watch it.
Aye, aye, cap'n.
bam_bam wrote: "Homeland" is a slow burn and 'ok'.
Got it. In my FIFO.

Never heard of it. Will give it a try.

Good tips. Thanks, bam.

You watched Southland yet?
