VAT return beckons since the accountants rang me on Thursday to tell me they break for chrimbo this Tuesday and need my books before then, thanks for that... /waffle.

Haven't you got until end of Jan? That's when I'll be doing mine. No doubt on the 31st.

Nope, over here for a private limited company at least, you have to have the money in the HMRC VAT coffers by Jan 7th. They don't come back from Chrimbo break until 3rd Jan so I am pretty boned.

I'm talking about UK VAT. This period ends 31 December. You've then got to the end of the next month (jan) to file the return and pay the VAT. You get an extra 7 days if you pay electronically (which you must if you do your return online).

Double check with your accountants, you might be rushing for nothing.

/edit: unless you are paying VAT annually?

Paying VAT quarterly and trust me, the letters from HMRC every quarter reminding me when our VAT has to be paid by, don't lie ;) A massive 2.5 hours sleep has been had and I have to go off all over the place shortly, including to AmD, FML and than god for stimulants in times of need.
