I'm about to change the front discs/pads on my C5 RS6.

Anybody have any knowledge if the Phaeton front discs are a suitable replacement too?
Would I need the Audi/Pagid pads or the Phaeton set?

Excuse the lack of mechanical knowledge...

Cheers!

*to

I'm having my rear discs skimmed and pads fitted at a supercar specialist tomorrow. Their machine sounds like the bomb, they're only charging me £75+ VAT to skim the discs and fit the new pads I'm supplying.

It's 40 miles, Kidderminster. Their communication and flexibility so far has been great, and considering the calibre of cars they work on they weren't snooty about me wanting to book my old Audi in, once I've used them I'll post their details and a recommendation. New rear discs were about £400 so quite a saving to be had...

This is taken from their website:
The Pro-Cut process will return your brakes to Maserati ex-factory condition. The process matches the disc to the hub. In other words, if there is the slightest run-out in the hub (i.e. it doesn’t rotate in a perfectly true way), the Pro-Cut process will take care of this and correct it by automatically compensating for it.

Maserati Brake discs should be resurfaced when:

The lathe works on the vehicle, by attaching itself directly to the hub. The technology includes an automatic, electronically-controlled, gyroscope system which measures run-out in the hub and corrects for this to an accuracy of 0.025mm. That’s less than the thickness of a human hair!

The automatic surface machining of a disc is completed in around 15 minutes. The complete process takes less than 30 minutes per disc.

Why are you having them skimmed? Are they vibrating?

Yes, oh god yes, and Grizz put new rear discs as an advisory on my last service too. They only started vibrating recently.

Unusual for rear disks to warp. Have you measured the thickness?

They will be vibrating due to corrosion , I bet they will be well below the minimum thickness once skimmed ...

I would put the £75 towards a new set TBH ..

With £570-odd spent on my fronts that I only did just under 4000 "XP-10" miles on, I was only happy to sell them on to somebody else after getting them skimmed. Worth doing after having those pads biting down on them like rabid dogs.

I CANNOT recommend highly enough that people seriously weight up the pros and cons of the horribly air-restrictive front disc guards on these. In my experience on this car, they cause the inner side of the disc to heat up far more than that free outer side, the holes in the + disc inner sides clog up far worse and the dist just gets packed in there with nowhere to go compared to the outer sides due to no flaming air really getting to the inner disc face. I took mine off and they are NEVER going back on.

There is also Unit 20's Pheaton front disc ducting mod to consider of course.

Tbh I feel 1.5 kg each disc is a fair amount added and you will feel and notice a performance negative

I like the idea of a saving £ but Not at cost of performance ... It's paying to downgrade IMO

I've booked it in for tomorrow now, but won't skim below the recommended thickness of course, it's stamped into the bell so they won't miss that, £75 also includes fitting the pads too which is about who a garage would want in labour to fit them so essentially I'm getting an excuse for a drive and a free disc skim. It's got to be worth a go.
