All this talk of fuel economy and not driving it after you clean it is starting to get me worried Eddie. You need to get it to Castle Coombe in October and give it a damn good blat!

I'm confused by this thread.

It's seems people are talking about the new fuel Shell Fuelsave (i.e. the new more efficient cost saving fuel) but at the same time suggesting there's a new V-Power.

I thought they were two separate fuels (95 + 98) and I can't find any information to suggest V-power has been changed?

p.s. And RS6 owners talking about saving a couple of quid per tank?!?!

The reported 34mpg - was that off the DIS or actually measured? Mine typically shows 24-26mpg on the DIS, but the real calculated/measured figure is 20-21mpg. Over 15,000miles of measured usage, my car has averaged 19.9mpg - MTM Stage3, 100CPSI CATs, Milltek etc etc. I would be amazed if an RS6 could measure 30+mpg, unless it's driven at 30mph everywhere... ! Heck, my Panda 4x4 only does 38mpg and that has 1/9th the power of the RS...

In answer to the above queries:

I had a chat with the guy at my local Shell station and he informed me that; they are still rolling out the old stocks (pre fuel-save) of V-Power in many areas. It hasnt been advertised as 'V-Power inclusive' as they are waiting for the old stuff to run out. In my area we have been on the 'fuel save' stuff for a little while, this being due to the close proximity of the refinery. He said that the V-Power is just a modified version of the standard 95 ron.

As for the mpg on the DIS. I know what you mean about the innacuracies of the DIS. My dads A6 is very far out, and my mates Passat (same system) is also pretty generous. But....... the reading of 34mg isnt far out then you work out the figures:

85 litre tank = 15.45454545 gallons (15.5 gallons for arguments sake).
550 miles divided by 15.5 gallons = 35.484 mpg.

Going on my old record of 500 miles for a tank, the figure is pretty spot on the DIS again.

500 miles divided by 15.5 gallons = 32.258 mpg.

The improved economy only seems to prove itself on the longer runs. Ive seen normal mpg figures for town driving this weekend and normal for mixed conditions. I also wasted a 355 last night (very easily) and pulled away slowly from my old local adversary, a bright yellow Murcialago. Last time i met him it was even stevens, but since Doug and Minhea re-worked the mapping there has definately been an improvment, especially from 3rd gear up.

As i offered previously, if anyone wants to stump up the cash for the fuel i'll gladly take the day off and run a demo. We could even do a Top Gear style live update.

You can use the vag com to calibrate the mpg computer. I dropped it by 10% to get it accurate.

think i might get into the 500 mile per tank club lol!

Filled up with shell fuelsave last night on drive to birmingham and at one point i had covered 72miles and had miles to empty at 580. I kid you not! This is not vpower either! Took pic cos i couldn't believe it myself.

I was driving like a nun though but got fed up and sped up. Still looking likely i'll get over 500miles. Its very soul destroying going that slowly though!

Just shows you on a long steady drive they can be reasonable on fuel.

I often play that good game of adding the Trip miles completed to the Estimated miles left and whilst it typically adds up to well over 500 miles during the first 1/3 of a tank, reality slowly creeps up on it and eventually it will show 350 max, as it always does, but the time we get down to 1/4 tank.

YMMV (!)

I think all the people getting 30+ or even 20+ to the gallon from their RS6 must drive
really steadily and constantly down a fairly steep hill. I've seen 20mpg on mine, but only
once and not for very long, I just couldn't do it.

Why did you put standard 95 in your 6? It wont like it!! You'll get reduced performance and reduced mpg with regular unleaded. Not to mention the potential damage you could do to your cats (overfueling leads to overheating).

The handbook does say you can use it but it prefers super and it was mainly a test to see. I could feel a very slight power loss but it ran without any noticeable side effects. Unlike when I was forced to use a tank of supermarket 95 fuel once and it def didn't run properly.

I filled up with 550 miles on the clock and 35.2mpg showing. Once filled it had 665 miles to empty LOL. Thats with 3 M6 tailbacks and some road testing when I had the box mapped (see other post for details).

On a tank of v-power I reckon I could do 600 but it would be torture. I got from Dundee to Alcester and back to the lake district on a tank and was quite pleased. Filled it up with v-power and gave up on the mpg pursuit cos I just wanted to be home in my bed.

Was a long day yesterday! Sorry was a very long 3 days LOL I left at 10pm Thu night and got back at 2am last night with no sleep. Not healthy!

Dont think you could get any more than 550 to be honest. The DIS might say 600 miles but the car wont go that far. Not unless you run on 4 cylinders for the whole journey.
