Probably this guy http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/u ... 927031.ece . I did some work with him about five years ago - always had very flash cars paid for with someone else's money! He's now inside at her majesty's pleasure.

If it was his - then Caveat Emptor!

Ive seen this car at RSD when it was having the 540BHP conversion back when i had my S4.
It was the first in the country to revieve the 540BHP oettinger upgrade if my memory serves me correct. and it was a pricey upgrade as i was considering it as my next move.

It was also an MI5 agent who owned it when the conversion was done as i remember the owner of RSD telling me a few stories :)

cheers

Not doubting YOU Baz.
540bhp is rediculously hard to GENUINELY get without changing turbos, which then, its rediculously EASY to get a lot MORE than 540.... see where i am going with this....?
Lots of tuners claim 530, 540 or even 550. But the people who really tune these cars know that the realistic numbers on standard turbos, standard manifolds and Intercoolers is 530- TOPS. I believe MRC managed to get 535 on their own car after a huge amount of RR time and tweeking. To get any more they needed BIG mods.
My car runs about 520 with shitloads of Torque (too much-near 600ftlbs) To get anymore i need to spend big bucks on turbo's.....
It's all Bollox.

GB is ACTUALLY fine funilly enough. Had a moment a while ago, but just needed servicing.
Anyhoo, in these cars, unrelenting continiuos full bore starts will kill a standard car's box.

Ah.bigger turbo's. you then get into the realms of limiting torque to below 600ftlbs (my opinion is realistically 550ftlbs is plenty) to preserve the box. The only way to be sure of being able to cope with monster horses and torque A La Paul, is manual conversion, and then its not cheap, not cheap at all.

Great if you have very deep pockets. I know I would jump at the chance of going manual if I was in the position to do so (if I had had the knowledge when I bought the car 3 years ago, the manual conversion would have been the first thing i did as at that time cash flow was good) as it basically de-limits the engines true capability, and considring this engine was a formula one engine in its original guise, but with two turbo chargers bolted on, you are looking at 800+gegees. AND I WANT SOME. (but can't afford it :( )

So, in light of this and for these reasons alone, I always raise an eyebrow at people who claim 530+ hp from a map and cat back from "Fastasfucktuning/we emtpyyourpocketsforminimalgains.com" I wont say 530 is impossible ona map but a full exhaust IS required plus other bits too, and if the likes of Grizz or MRC have mapped it, but mr backstreet tuner- near impossible.

All in my opinion of course........

Said MI5 agent needs shooting then. If this is true then he's probably already banged up like the last guy from MI6 who blabbed a bit and is now facing a long term sentence under the 'Secrets' Act. If its actually true then there's no way on earth he would tell the owner of the garage that he was a spook. Kinda ruins the 'secret' part of the Secret Intelligence Service title. He probably just fancied himself as a bit of a James Bond and thought that his stories made him a few more friends. Either that or he is one of the more common 'failed the entry test' kinda guys who then pass themselves off as Spies because they watched loads of it on TV.

The car may have an expensive upgrade, but thats it. In my opinion they ruined the car when they ventured past the engine mods. Whoever owned it has awefull taste and an obvious issue with 'compulsive non-truths'. Very smart considering how much of our life, true or untrue is recorded and assessed for national security purposes.

Even the faintest whisper of MI5 here and you can bet your bottom dollar that its been picked up by a scanner and the forum trawled for information. And you guessed it, the reg of said car will have been checked and the owners history searched. If it tally's up with your story then you can also bet that someone will have had or is about to recieve a phone call.

Just so that you know (not obvious enough), i do hate imposters. Ive met afew on my travels who have tried to pass themselves off as one thing or another and nothing grips my <beep> more!! Why claim the glory that another man may have fought and died for? Basically identity theft.

Strange way to sell a car anyway. Who cares who the previous owner was unless it was:

1. Rally driver (wannabe)
2. Chav
3. Narcoleptic

I suspect the previous owner of this one ticks at least 2 of those boxes.

Also, why the long (and boring) story about the gearbox? Just get it done then sell the car sorted.
