So that £6,900 running cost for a £10k car.... excluding depreciation.
And that's if nothing goes wrong! If you add the price of new suspension and gearbox... scary

The warranty should cover the cost of the suspension and gearbox (hopefully)
But at 12k miles/year brakes and PS2 tyres will do 2 years (longer if you are like me) - £1800ish will cover the cost of all brakes and tyres to be replaced.
Just swapped front pads on mine after 2 years, discs are still fine (keep those holes clean!).

But Tax is going up to £400 this year...

Still, it's got to be worth it. You don't buy an RS6 as a sensible car. You couldn't possibly do this by accident.

Just sold mine for £16k. Had loads of enquiries and was repeatedly asked to sell it for 15k one board member who has all the book values missed out for a few hundred quid ! there was no way i was going to sell it any cheaper than that.

15 months ownership and 15 thousand miles cost 8k depreciation 2 sets of tyres as they were shot when i bought it and it needed new to sell it. £800 disk and pads. £1600 KW and setup. £1000 milltek system. £300 servicing. £700 warranty and a few other bits and bobs. Warranty company paid 5 k for the new box and £800 for the new lambda sensors.

So cost me £14k and including hire cars the warranty company £6k 20K for just over a year of motoring. Why the hell did I sell it.

Watched it drive up the road and a missing it. I was truly gutted. Only good thing is I am one step colser to a new toy. a 911 for a year and then a new shape RS6.
RS6 C5 05 plate very tidy.
Past.... Only have 500 characters ! RR Sport X 2 Nice but boring RS6 C5 03 Sold due to losing 25K of value in 12 months of ownership !
Still have a 72 GT6 and a few Big Bikes....

That's why you never do the maths... No brain, no pain :)

It's too easy to take these cars for granted. Because it does what a 'normal' car does so well, you kind of expect it to be like normal cars in others ways too. And you moan when it uses more fuel, costs more to run, etc.

Fact is, it's a racing car. And the fact that you can own one so "cheaply" and not have it break down and need a rebuild every 1000 miles is quite staggering when you think about it.

rs6 costs

Post by langstone » Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:27 am

surely RS6's are expensive to run but cheap compared to anything that can keep up.

I was looking at a Maserati - love Italian cars just got frightened by the bills - had several Alfas!!! - glutton for punishment.

Ferrari with similar performance - Bills goto be higher.
Lambo - I'm sure you you can't run these for similar money.
Porsche from what I read may be comparable on costs but where do you put the passengers let alone the wardrobe?

Merc surely these must cost more and I prefer the security of Quattro.

Aston definately more.
Maserati - got the looks but will it run tomorrow? Sounds brilliant though.

BMW - sorry just doesn't cut it for me.

The RS6 has got to be the practical, (relatively) affordable supercar.

regards

Mark

lets be honest, in todays market - the RS 6 is a absolute awesome VFM. . . .450bhp for around £15k
The thing with all those running costs mentioned above, i think it only is telling half the story as EVERY car will cost in fuel, depreciation, insurance, warranty (if you so choose), brakes, tyres etc

Its only the incremental costs which are of concern, and so those incremental costs, ie over what you'd have tp pay anyway to drive say a Golf GTI are pretty cheap to drive a 450bhp Audi RS which will pull the pants down on a Ferrari

I had the use of a fezza 348 ts as a company car when i was mate and engineer on a trawler (another story of poor fisherman), and that car was A)slower B)more expensive to run and C) you couldn't get a trawl door in the back!

It was worth every penny of it. Had I not needed to TOW then I would never have sold it. In the time I had it I played with lots of cars and no one got even close to it.

I raced bikes so the speed thing is not such a big issue as I still have a few !

You will not get better value. Look at the guy who has just bought my car.
He has a mint RS6 with 76k on the clock with nothing to spend on it for a while and 500bhp + to play with that will destroy anything on the roads.

I had 30 + calls from different people all asking me to sell it cheaper. One reply after the 20th email was "I would rather let my wife drive it and see the kids and dogs destroy it" fair play though for trying to get it cheaper.

Three people looked at it. One question is, if you took a buyer out for a drive how would you drive ?
I was called a nutter twice when I really wasn't driving hard at all I just wanted to show how grippy the Vredestiens were around a wet roundabout !
