what happens to the rs6 gearbox?
I have, today, experienced problems with the gearbox/clutch. In first the clutch appears to dis-engage, the revs rise and then the clutch re-engages with a kick. The car then went into safe mode and I drove to my Audi dealer. After inspection Audi have suggested a gearbox oil and strainer change (which is not covered under my Warranty Direct warranty) but also said that it could be a gearbox problem (is covered under warranty) but that they cannot determine until they carry out the oil change (£286.39).
Do these symptoms mean the gearbox has definately gone? If so any advice on how I convince Audi of this?Has anyone else had these symptoms, simply changed the oil and all is fine??

Won't work for very long at all with the ECU's anti left foot braking software still activemattysupra wrote: if i had warranty and mine did this i might be tempted to put my foot on the break and loud pedal at the same time untill it did go bang

You can't left foot brake on ANY Audi that has drive by wire, unless it's been mess with by the right peoplemattysupra wrote:Tell me more, before i make a fool of my self on the quarter mile! That's all I'll say

not strictly true. if you brake while your foot is on the loud pedal, the throttle is cut. however if you brake and then apply the loud pedal - normal service resumes....S2tuner wrote:S2tuner wrote:

Mattysupra. The box preserves itself by using the power rather than the torque...but when I first got mine, the gearbox was completely crap and the gear changes erratic and horrible. When I had the cambelt changed, the dealer told me that the software was for a manual box and didn't know what it was doing. They uploaded the original settings and the box was brilliant. It still is slow in changing up, and likes low gear whern possible, but it was better. If you box was re-mapped, get it checked again.

Sounds like it needs re doing. Mine wont make use of the torque the car has but likes to shift into a high reving gear all the time.Rek wrote:Mattysupra. ask the dealer the codes the tcu logged (it will have for a "safe" mode event), and post them here...rs6nick wrote:Not entirely sure I have had an answer to my questions, instead I have apparently kicked off a new 'left foot breaking' topic.
Again, do symptoms mean gearbox has failed or can a simple oil change fix all?
I have a standard car, no re-mapping, call me old fashioned but 450hp is fine for me.
In both my petrol allroad and current RS6, throttle will automatically close if you put the brake lights on (ie: gentle push) with your left foot whilst keeping the throttle steady - you can feel the throttle close and then re-open when you take your left foot off the brake. Try it the other way round when stationary (ie: left foot on brake and then lift revs with throttle) and it all works as you'd expect, ie: torque converter winds up and launch can be pretty spectacular. But not a good thing to do often, as the heat it puts into the converter is significant. Useful for those v.quick exits from tricky junctions, that's all really.
Well that's what it does in mine, anyway.

I asked the dealer for the codes, he said that these are not kept unless a warraty claim is to be processed. After speaking to the mechanic who worked on the car he told me that there are no codes specific to gearbox failure and that further diagnosis would be made while changing the gearbox oil (booked for Thursday). In other words if any bits fall out with the old oil then there is a problem.[/quote]ask the dealer the codes the tcu logged (it will have for a "safe" mode event), and post them here...
