Ok. here it is again.
Shock seals begin to fail and a small amount of fluid can be seen on the shocks. As the system pressure drops below 12 bar, the shocks will compress over bumps and such causing the car to roll and sway more than usual plus you may hear some knocking sounds coming from the 4 corners.
The shocks must be replaced. the system is bled under negative pressure to create a vacuum in the shcks and hydraulic lines. each shock is refilled under 5 bar of pressure and then sealed upon disconnect. Nest, the lines are filled under pressure and disconnected. Lastly, new central valves charged to 16 bar from the factory are installed and then connected to the already filled and pressurized lines/shocks.. when the pin is pulled, the 16 bar from the central valves pressurizes the entire system and you should see a system pressure of anywhere between 12 and 14 bar. Anything under 12 bar means incorrect refilling of shocks/lines. and must be redone.
ANYTIME YOU REPLACE/REFILL ANY SHOCKS YOU MUST ALSO REPLACE THE CORRESPONDING CENTRAL VALVES. Do not let your mechanic tell you otherwise. Most of them dont know this and its what has caused so much dissatisfaction with faulty repairs. This plus improperly drained and recharged shocks/lines leting air in the system.
Audi is reportedly coming out with a DRC kit that will allow dealers to refill the central valves in house rather than having to order them from Germany each time. This will cut the costs of repair alot. But, the main thing here is to note that while Audi is fully aware of the faulty shock design, they are not going to redesign the part for such a small number of units, so they will continue to offer these faulty ones to us which will eventually fail again. So, either we continue to pay for these repairs or go aftermarket with Pss9's etc.
