Re: Shattered rear windscreen
Could have been very serious if anyone had been sat on the back seats.

Re: Shattered rear windscreen
All done today and original screen re installed with a new outer seal.
Left at the Bodyshop until tomorrow for the bonding to cure.
And got a full refund for the rear screen
Plus costs of hire car for 1 week.
Hope that’s the end of it.

Re: Shattered rear windscreen
Spoke too soon. Got the car home cleaned all the windows. Found a chip in the bottom of the brand new front screen. Looks like it was done when the water deflector was pressed back in.
Chip is 1 inch long x about 1/4 inch high on bottom edge.
Christ I give up. What a pain
Will have to be done again.
Also ordered a new water deflector as I was advised that mine was broken and someone had glued it in place.
Never had it out in my ownership (8 years) so cannot really argue the case as I wasn’t there when it was removed

Jeez, and replacing glass is usually one of the trouble free things that you can do with an older AUDI.

That’s what I thought. Hence agreeing to take them out to get a good roof repair.IchBautAuto wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 12:31 amJeez, and replacing glass is usually one of the trouble free things that you can do with an older AUDI.
So annoying.
Window fitter calling round on Monday. He is going to do a temporary repair until another screen arrives.
The new water deflector will arrive on Tuesday next week.

Oh Steve, I’m gutted for you. It will all be worth it when it’s done though mate.
Out of interest, can someone tell me how the roof trim that you removed is held in place please? Mine slides back and forth, it also pops up ever so slightly on the front end.

Re: Shattered rear windscreen
Hi Chris they just pull out. Lift either end out and gently ease it out by gradually pulling upwards. They have a rubber seal on each side for weatherproofing.
They are also bendyish so you can make them a good fit to the roofline. I used to try to get them flush with the roof. However I see the garage has pushed them all the way down.
My gutters looked immaculate and I always removed them when waxing the car. So I could clean and wax the gutters.
Not an inkling to what was lurking beneath the paintwork.
At least I now know that they are good.
Car back in to garage on Tuesday for gearbox oil and filter change. Plus diagnostic got a very small oil leak.
Ps Chris you should not be able to slide them back and forth ?
When you get them out. Check the rubber strip on either side of the trim.

Thanks Steve. I think the rubber must have deteriorated.

All sorted today. Must admit she does look stunning. Happy days.
Garage tomorrow gearbox oil change and diagnostic for a tiny oil leak.
Get those done and hopefully that’s it for this year.

Re this you can take them out and as a preventative measure put a squirt of clear wax oil down under them. I did my B5 RS4 to prevent any such issues

Spot on mate. That’s exactly what the Bodyshop did to mine after all the repairs.Human Joist wrote: ↑Mon Sep 14, 2020 10:05 pmRe this you can take them out and as a preventative measure put a squirt of clear wax oil down under them. I did my B5 RS4 to prevent any such issues
On another subject when we removed all the rear interior to hoover out all the broken glass. The original Stickers where still there.
The grey interior is actually called alc soul.
Must admit it does contrast nicely with the black leather.

Re: Shattered rear windscreen
Collected car today after gearbox service. She drives superb. Gear changes are so smooth.
Hopefully that’s the oil leak sorted out as well. Apparently leaking from the sump/gasket and the seal at the electrical connector.
Fingers crossed.
Update :
No oil leak. So all sorted thankfully.
