Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
Sounds like a better plan than an unknown place then.

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
If you were going north then I'd pop into Unit20 and see grizz. Or, as you're in the Midlands just pop down to MRC.

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
I've been learning a lot about these boxes recently, including tearing one down to the ground and about to rebuild it.
Be very careful driving around with this issue.
If it's a valve-body problem (sounds like it) it could lead to the A drum coming in contact with the C drum and that would damage the A drum and other parts and require a complete rebuild. Apparently that is a common issue.
Don't want to worry you

Hi
Where is best place to get transmission filter kit? I guess Audi would be best but are there any independant suppliers with same quality? Dont fancy ebay for obvious reasons.
Cheers

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
Unit 20 recently did mine, I think they only use VAG parts.
Parts were about £70 Oil about £90, labour about the same as 1 hour at Audi.
Unless you have the knowledge, time and equipment to DIY, why would you?
For info original box 50,000 approx 25,000 since last change no problems or noticeable difference before or after change, but Grizz reported oil was 'burnt , slightly dirty but not metal on magnets. Basically needed changing for preventative maintenance.

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
I don't think it's worth the risk. There have been a lot of incidences of the wrong strainer being installed with nasty consequences (pick up pipe length differences).MarkPRS6 wrote:Hi

You're looking at list prices of about £45 for the strainer and £25 quid for the sump gasket. The oil is pricey, but check the FAQ for equivalent oils at other brand dealers.

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
Thanks for the input.
Well an update, my car has been at the garage for a couple of weeks now,
tried an oil and filter change first, made no difference.
next thing is an gearbox ecu swap, but they've been on back order, one arrived today.
If that doesn't work then its out with the box and engine...

Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
btw is it really gearbox AND engine out job, or can it be removed without taking the engine out as well??
Re: RS6 Plus transmission rebuild specialist in Midlands??
It is not impossible to remove just the gearbox. But there is almost as much work involved as removing both at once. There is also a much higher risk of damaging something.
