The owner of the second one listed claims he or she wants to upgrade to a new RS6. Not sure if that means the C6 or C7.

Can't say this advert 'reads right' .. But maybe I am wrong !
Not wrong at all, I made a call doing a little homework and ow and behold.. Seems to have a leaking header.. £££ spent welding it up previously but has come back.... Nasty.. In fact, scary nasty !

Is that accurate info?

Damn.

I have been warned off 3x of these, and the one I wanted (grey with optics) has a reverse problem with the box.

Gutted is a understatement. I know these cars are costly to maintain which I have no problem with, but I don't want to walk into problems as soon as I buy one.

Sadly, it's the reality of cars like this when they become affordable to people who can't afford to maintain / fix them. They change hands quickly as soon as there is a problem. Probably true for a lot of cars.

If It's only a box problem then offer £4k less and get it sorted. Could be a great car other than the box.

I'm going to try that angle but I'm not sure a dealer will go through with it. I bet they would rather sell the car to someone who does not know what they are looking at and refuse a warranty claim!

If you want a good RS6 you need to get one that has had a new Gearbox / torque converter or an Audi warranty, all others are a risk imo. Two good forum cars recently sold have developed slush box faults so be warned. Mine is not for sale :). The problem is it is too easy to hide the fact the box is on it's way out as the torque converrter fault code can be cleared and not come back for some time at first (not impling anything here btw)

Your other options are buy one that has been converted to manual (rare) or buy a cheap one and be willing to throw lots of money at it.
Avus Avant, RNS-E mk2 with sds and Bluetooth, Milltek, Hotchkis, Bilstein, Forge, ITG, A.C.E, Wagner, FBMFSW, MTM.

Ok some progress.

Just emailed the trader with the grey RS6. Looks like the are going to correct the fault so I dropped them a email back asking what they are doing and how much.

If it's a couple of grand to fix I will get them to knock it off the car and take it to AMD to do the whole job.

The reverse problem is a known issue. Can't remember off hand what the fix is, but it's a big job.
