RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
Mr. Footlong thinks I should put some pics up of my steering wheel so here goes. Like Bilko1 I have no intentions of testing the airbag. Anyway my other car is a Delorean and there is not an airbag in sight.
FYI (Wheel supplied and installed by Gareth.)

Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
Yep, Gorwanvfr very kindly took a load of high res snaps of his setup and emailed them to me this morning. The steering wheel is better suited than the smooth leather one, imo of course.
There was also this shot, for a different aspect:

Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
Decision made, this and the bluetooth are being done, quite possibly next month. A little weary that it may look a little out of place due to the column shroud being the wrong shape to match but it may not be toooo bad.

Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
No reason, I'm after one that's all. The horn isn't working on mine. Was going to try a whole new airbag/steering wheel unit to see if that fixs it, nothing coming up on Vag Com.

Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
There are four main parts required.mik15 wrote:what modifications are required to install this steering wheel? do the MFS work?
Wheel
Air Bag
Slip ring
Control Module.
Other items connectors and wire.
Small amount of rewiring and of course recoding using Vagcom cable.
Everything works on the wheel.

Do what you gotta' do, Footers. The new steering wheel is gonna' be sweeeet. Has Gareth said he has a work around the dual stage airbag, or are we risking 'face splat'?

Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
He said there is work around as such. It just has to be wired correctly. It is my understanding that some guys try and connect the two stages together and this overloads the output from the controller, or they connect the wrong set of connections. Having watched Gareth doing my upgrade all I can say is the man knows his stuffAmar wrote:Do what you gotta' do, Footers. The new steering wheel is gonna' be sweeeet. Re: RNS-E, have I bought the right version?
Guys, I have been tinkering with the 2012 RNS-E nav DVD since last week and after getting a DVD writer capable of natively wiring the correct book type, I have mastered a DVD with speed European speed traps integrated in to it. THE RNS-E cannot give audible warnings but better than a kick in the head.
That disc is tested and working so I am making up another one with the following specific POIs integrated in to it:
October 2012 SCDB.info Western Europe Speed Traps
October 2012 UK Tesco Fuel Stations
October 2012 UK Shell Fuel Stations
July 2012 UK BT Openzone Wi-Fi Hotspots
July 2012 UK Cineworld Cinemas
April 2012 UK Comet Branches
September 2012 UK Currys Branches
October 2012 UK German Swedish French Car Part Branches
July 2012 UK Kwik Fit Branches
October 2012UK Maplin Branches
August 2012 UK Odeon Cinemas
April 2012 UK PC World Branches
June 2012 UK General Tyre & Exhaust Fitters
September 2012 UK Vue Cinemas
While cinemas are covered in the integrated POI class on the DVD, I just put these more specific ones in because I could. The same applies for Shell fuel stations and tesco ones to a far lesser extent. I Only use Tesco 99 or V-Power if no 99 around, so having only those POIs active on the map is much better for me. Things like Maplin etc are for when I am out and stuck for emergency part for example.
The disc is still mastering but when I check it in the morning I have no reason to believe that it won't work perfectly. For those of you with RNS-E systems, feel free to PM me if you want this and I can sort you out. Given a bit of time, I can tailor up pretty well anything for you (cough, Shopp xxx)
Nothing commercial, just offering to help out others as per usual

Further to my post above Gorwan's, I was working until just now so I checked the latest mastered disc and everything worked exactly as expected.
Thanks btw, I got the high res pics of the above
