When I took the cluster out. Did notice a light at the bottom about 12 inches below where the cluster sits ?
Don’t know what that is.

Oh yes, I see.
Still it’s got to be worth checking the connections to the back of the cluster.
With your old cluster can you check the lamp on the bench? If that’s working then it would prove it’s a problem with you car rather than a coincidence that two lamps have failed.

As you know I know very little about these cars so any thing I say should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Because of the problem I had with the spare cluster.
I asked cartronix to check the backlights on my original.
They told me they were all ok.

Sounds like a wiring problem between the dimmer and the cluster. Didn’t think there was a fuse but I’ll check.

Thanks Shop. As far as I am aware the only connections at the back of the cluster are the three plugs. grey green and blue.
Is there a separate wire for the dimmer ?
Very much appreciate your expertise.

They’re all intermittent and probably due to unplugging the cluster. Clear them and see if any come back.

Had a quick look and the dashboard light settings seems to go straight from the headlight switch to the cluster via the green 32pin connector on the dashpod.

Have you still got the old headlight switch?

Hi Shop. You were right again. Ran autoscan and all previous faults disappeared. Didn’t need to delete them. They were not there and no faults found was recorded.
Still have no backlights though.
Bit of a pain after all we have been through.

Yes I kept the old headlight switch.
Still in the box that the new one came in.
Switch them over and see what happens and report back.

Just changed the switches over. Still no luck.
No backlights. Bugger.
I presume the backlighting is via led,s inside the cluster ?
Thanks buddy.

Looking like I need a new cable ? If you can still get them.
Or call in a auto electrician.
Love/hate relationship with the car at the moment.
Will love her again in the morning lol.

I’ll have another look at the wiring when I get a chance.

In the meantime, have you checked all the fuses?

I'd be tempted to whip the cluster back out Steve and check the wires in the connector plug as mentioned above.
You have the manuals Steve, have a quick look at the wiring diagram to see which wire goes where
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Dunc. I have the manuals ! Done nothing but read manuals.
Ps they are in lovely condition by the way. Did you ever use them. Not a single mark or oily fingerprint.
All the fuses I have looked at also effect something else. Climate control for example.
Everything is ok apart from backlights on cluster.
Both of them.
Will resume diagnostics tomorrow.
Really pleased with your sale. Hope you got what you wanted buddy.
