Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
Over the last few weeks I have been doing a bit of work myself towards the build.
First off I send the front bumper off to be resprayed, over the moon with the finish, compared to how it looked before. Then today I actually set about building it back up with all the grills. I also set about sorting the faulty parking sensor problem too. I also removed all the brackets for the fog lights (because race car) weight saving
whilst also re tapping up the whole wiring loom on the front bumper too.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
How is the engine rebuild going? I've got a naturally aspirated one that I have half a mind to rebuild - but finding someone who is actually and genuinely competent is a nightmare. Who are you using?
A buddy at the moment paid a well known local machine Shop to sleeve & bore a big block for him, including removing all the oil and core plugs, cleaning all the galleries and reinstalling the cam bearings (if you don't do all that in the right order, you end up with crud on the back side of the cam bearings).
Anyway, not only did they not remove the oil gallery plugs, they mashed the heads up on them and left them like that. And then installed cam bearings anyway. FFS.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
The build is going well now and coming along quicker than I expected.
We had a massive set back at the start due to bore problems and stuff but that’s all sorted now. Just waiting on the condos bearing turning up then the bottom end will be complete. Forged pistons & rods. New crank bearing and rod bearing. Lightened and balanced crank, rods and pistons along with my flywheel too. So it all singing in perfect harmony

My head are being collected this week. After have the inlet ports matched up with the inlet manifold. Exhaust posts match up with my tubular exhaust manifolds. Port, polished and dimpled inlet runners also added in to the mix.
All the over size valve work have also been done with new valve seats and everything assembled up in the heads. Except the new race cams.
All the block and head work has been done by garages/work Shop that specialise in them areas. But the full strip down and rebuild is being done by a company in Derby called Quattro clinic.

Are they custom pistons being made for you? Who is making them?

My pistons are a custom set yes to my spec’s but you can buy lower competition forged pistons off the shelf. As well as rods too

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
Today I added another part to my front bumper! My carbon fibre under headlight trims
It really does matches what I’m going for in the long run.
I must say I’m very impressed with the fit and the lookIt really does matches what I’m going for in the long run.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
A massive update. The under body resto has no major rust or welding needing doing. (Massive relief)
My bottom end engine build has struggled to find big end bearing. So being a major king race bearing distributor he has leant on them to make bearing for this car moving forward.
Just 1 more thing I’m adding to the C5 RS6 community along with everything else so fare. (Still more to come though) so stay tuned.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
Where did you get the Carbon FIber propshaft? I've seen ones for the B5 S4/RS4 but haven't found one for a manual A6/S6 (converted RS6). I've got a TDI DWT 01E (has the larger 130mm flange, Wide & Flexible 1st gear)(updated shift collar and 4/1 Torsen center diff) in my RS6, using a Cast Iron Clutch slave cylinder, not the junk plastic ones, a manual A6 propshaft but a lighter one would be nice. I've heard the 0A3 propshaft is about 30mm shorter than a 01E?? Anyone know for sure?

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
The carbon prop shaft was a custom build 1 off. But I’m sure if you contacted The Driveshaft Shop (USA) they would be willing to make you 1.
Costs about $2k and around 6/8 months waiting list.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
Thanks, I will. Saw their B5 S4/RS4 one but now I know they'll do a custom one.

Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
More updates.
Today my carbon fiber bloke has finally finished the very first scuttle panel and coolant res cover flap. I have also received my turbos back from TTE in Germany. What can I say they literally look like brand new but better. Above are the results from the dyno the turbos had after being modified in to the 960’s they are now. As you will see in 1 of the picture I also opted for the 08 exhaust housing adaptors.
Now just for some picture porn (enjoy) I also went with the thermo coating on the hot side of the turbos too. All in aid of helping the engine bay temps stay low. The 08 exhaust housing and down pipes will be getting sent away for ceramic coating again just to help with heat management
I have also had an update my carbon fibre prop shaft is being collected tomorrow for shipping too
