as if it's his fecking forum

That's why I asked nicely.
ooops sorry if we hi-jacked your post

Thanks for being professional about it even though "it's not my fecking forum".

I'm trying to get the specs because there are a few of us here in the states looking to build a race car (about 1 & 1/2 yrs) using either the RS4 or RS6 engine. I'm trying to do some research. Can I proceed without any animosity please?

Hey Kurt, just our British sense of humour - chill mate

Even with the good availability of RS6's in the UK ( ) you will find the RS4 a better bet for a base engine (race or otherwise) - in fact some S4's are kicking out over 500bhp using RS4 turbos and bits, and they are even available direct in the US

Try to locate an RS6 short block would cost you a mint - what parameters do you have to work with?

I'm not too worried about the $$$ because our sponsors have faith in us. Our plan of attack (on the sponsors) is to also use the aspect that cars in the US are 'drifting' towards bigger engines (however more efficient) and using the V8 as a showboat may receive alot of publicity (small car. Golf. mid engined if all goes well) = good for sponsors.
Also we're looking for a little more hp than that. Bigger engine = make hp easier = reliability. Plus we'd be machining alot of the internals.

There are still a few more factors which will help decide which engine to use (exhibition car? race league? etc) so I'm still deep in the research stages. Plus if the 6 looks sturdy enough we'll use it. That is the team's overall first preference ('fitment', $$, popularity thus far, etc).

Thanks for the adv though.

Why not go the easier and cheaper route, all easily available in the US ;

Boss 429 cu in all alloy block/heads, titanium rods & pistons, full floating pins, Dyers 8-71 blower with Enderle Fuel Injection etc etc ...............

Must be good for a little bit more than 450bhp

So do you have any criteria for cc (or ci) turbo/non-turbo?

I've actually built a few of those. (not exactly your specs but brute force engines).
Reason why not: I think I failed to mention that this car is gonna take corners too.
And I'm hoping to actually make it around the entire track (gas).

We're looking towards the Khp. sshhhh....
(I'll probably get the crap kicked outta me for talking too much)

Those are the regulations that we're still checking out but the car is definitely gonna be a turbo (single). If we make it an exhibition car, it's gonna have no limits...
Depending on if we choose to race it in a few leagues, we might try to make it a little 'universal' and do minor mods to change to each series. SO as of now there are no specific limitations (hint, hint) but all we have as of now is the car. We're also going through it to find out how hard each project would be to help with the decision. U know of the Dahlback Golf? Major influential factor... (hint, hint). Also we built a corrado that was notorious at the street 'confrontations' (we don't promote street racing... ). i.e. until the cops saw it spitting a 10" fireball at a stop light one night. Just before the 65ft 'laying a drag'. Needless to say...
Another major influence...

The RS6 uses a Bi-Turbo configuration to achieve 450bhp, are you sure a single turbo will be able to replace this much power output or are you looking to use a industrial turbo unit?

relatively industrial sized . +psi if nec. Will be custom made. One of the guys is an aero eng. specialty = compressors. He 'designed' the turbo for the corrado. 1bar @ 3.8krpm; 2.2 bar @ 8krpm. Nicknamed the 'freight train' (from the turbo whistle and the tq).

This is all I can find in the manual:

V8, spark ignition, 5 valve technology, bi-turbo, two light alloys cylinder heads, three inlet valves, two exhaust valves, four overhead camshafts (DOHC).

Displacement : cm3 : 4172
Max Output kW (bhp) at rpm : 331 (450)/5700-6400
Max Torque, Nm at rpm : 560/1950-5500

Bi-turbo, fully electronic, sequential multi-stage injection system with air mass measurement, mapped ignition, stabilising high pressure distribution, camshaft adjustment, cylinder bank selective exhaust temperature regulation and co-ordinated engine momentum management.

Emission Control System:
Two curved pipes with air isolation feature, two initial stage catalytic convertors located close to the engine, stage catalytic converters, two primary catalytic converters, cylidner selective lambda control with two heated lambda probes.

Does that help at all?
