Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
Just spoke to Straightline Perfomance in Malvern, who did my original timing belt change for a very reasonable price - I may just use them as they did it before. Has anyone else used them here?

I love how their address says "Near Worcester".
Yeah, they've got good reviews and if they're in Malvern then people will be travelling to go to them, so that's a good sign.

Some great driving roads around Malvern. Lots of walkers about at the moment though.
You could drop off your car, and while they are doing the cambelt, do some hiking and get angry at people driving too fast, then go for a drive and get angry at hikers.

It also needs an MOT now which is also included. Plus I'd rather go with a company renowned for working on high performance cars.
Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
It's not the right oil.
Seems a reasonable price for all that work, though.

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
Correct ! Didn't notice that. 5W40 from memory ? Not 30....
I have another 1-2 quotes coming, but I think I'm going to go with these guys as they at least have a decent reputation. I'm not in any rush I guess, but I do miss driving it. Driving an Auto TDI A4 Cabriolet around just isn't the same. Pulling out of a roundabout you sit there for 2 minutes with your foot flat on the floor waiting for the car to start moving !

And another one in.....
£1600 ! Not including the Gearbox service. Using all genuine parts. This is Templetons, the family run place that deals in Aston Martins and Porsches.
Fantastic price for
Full Cambelt, Waterpump, Aux belts, tensioners, Full service with all parts except air filters (Has MRC filters) Transfer box and Diff oil change and an MOT.

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
Seems like a pretty good price. They don't want to do the gearbox service?
I'd put the OE paper filters in. There's nothing to be gained from aftermarket ones and they don't filter as well.

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
I didn't actually ask for a G/Box service. It was just added in by VRS since I was getting all the other bits changed. Since I planned on getting the box done at some point it wasn't something that I had considered.
I don't believe it's a huge job ? In which case I may ask them to do it anyway whilst it's in. Not sure it will have any affect on what I believe is a slipping TC, but it's worth a shot as the issue doesn't see all that bad.
I may consider regular filters, but MRC charged me a kidney for them when they mapped the car, so I'm kinda inclined to keep them

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
LOL

BAD NEWS!!!!
The car's never been running better! As got it through MOT, fixed joiners in exhaust with new ones, old had rusted away, and bled the brakes, new rear calipers and pads, and BOOM, last week on an unlit road, a badger decides to move into my path at 70mph just when I thought I was able to avoid it at the last minute!
Told the insurance company that I want it repaired, and if they deem it a write off to keep it!
It just looks like the driver side corner has been pushed in, I will need a new bumper and for the wing to be reshaped?? if they can do that SO hoping the insurance company let's me have the car back!! I will try and locate the pics and send them here too

Tips welcomed re repairing it! (I've just had another look at it, and it looks like it's only surface damage?? Hoping!)

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
So nearly 3 weeks my car has been away now. I've rung them several times, they have not rang me a single time. Even when saying they would call me back.
Apparently whoever did the cambelt last time has round off loads of bolts, so they have had to drill a few of them out, which is why they say it's taken longer.
Now something has broken that holds the radiator in place, so they are waiting on a part from TPS so they can get the radiator back on and the front back on and all bled through.
How feasible is the rounded off bolts thing ? And can they charge me extra for such a thing ? They haven't mentioned it, but just wanted opinions, just in case they try.

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
Are they doing the tensioner pads & chains as well as cam belt?
Engine in or engine out?
Depends which bolts it is TBH.

Re: Cam Belt Plus Chain ?
They're not the kind of bolts that round off IMO. Not unless you have fisher price tools and/or no idea how to do them up. It's not the kind of job that someone who doesn't know how to tighten a bolt would normally attempt, I'd have thought. Maybe they're the ones who rounded them off. Fits with breaking the radiator support.
Anyway, there's no way of knowing if they're telling the truth. I wouldn't accept paying extra since the odd broken bolt is part and parcel of working on a 20 year old car and they are supposed to be professionals.
