It’s just the price. I’ve actually had significantly worse quotes than that.

Sorry, I misread. I thought you were talking about dealer prices.

Yeah, that’s steep.

Well, I'm certainly going to get another couple of quotes. The labour for the belt is maybe 3-4 hours over for a start ? I'm sure I've read that it's about an 8 hour job by the book ?

I'm beginning to wonder what parts were actually done the last time it was changed as the cost was only £800.

Ah ok, that's what I thought. Just a local Audi specialist....

The parts cost a good 500 quid with a trade discount. I reckon someone used to doing the job could do it in about 4 or 5 hours. I reckon I could do it in not much more than that.

2 hours to change the plugs... by a one armed blind person maybe.

I suppose one hour of that could be trying to get the air box back on.

Whereabouts are you based?

Me too, it's nearly 5 years since I had the cam belt service done, and have done the brakes, spark plugs and small bit of the exhaust myself and have gained a little confidence, and am contemplating doing the cambelt change myself, but still a bit nervous about it!
So I got a quote from MRC just to see what 'the best' would charge, and gulped at around £2k all in. I asked why the belts were on the high side, and they said it's all from TPS. And they're just down the road from me, but only open to the Trade!
Is there a way we can use a group buy here and is anyone in the trade prepared to help us get the Cambelt kit in a bulk buy from there? Just in case I muster up enuf courage to attempt the service myself!!!!

Even retail, the parts are about 800 quid. It's not a hard job. Nobby on here rents the tools.

I'm based in Northampton area. I do have other options to look at, it's just they have always been my go to garage. I guess since they don't know these type of cars very well, they just want to cover their backs with regards to cost. I certainly don't intend to pay that amount.

There's a Porsche specialist in Wellingborough isn't there? I wonder if they do other VAG cars.

There’s Autovolks in Solihull. I have heard good things. Don’t know them personally though.

Just had a look around, and you can get a Contitech timing belt kit (no water pump) and an Airtex Waterpump for around £460 delivered from Carparts4less. Contitech (Dayco) are good parts as far as I know.

Just saw Online car parts and one kit by HEPU (??) for discounted price of £340 ... thoughts... :-) ?? :sekret:

Seems pricey for CP4L. Can't be much less than the Audi price? Someone posted their Audi / TPS prices recently. Can't remember on which thread.

I would only use a OEM pump.

Don't forget the tensioner. That will have to come from Audi.

There are also all the aux belt pulleys and tensioners. Not obligatory, but I do them at the same time as my timing belt.
