So much more "convenient " than lifting up the battery compartment panel if there is stuff in the boot.

The CTEK extensions are very handy although I wouldn't pay too much attention to what the lights indicate.
I've got the dongle version and don't find it very helpful.

Made up the missing front CF engine panel clips. Easy enough, if I still had access to a lathe then it would look a lot more professional but hand tools only for this one.

A few 1/4 - 3/8 BSP gas fittings, two 3/8 bsp male-male joiners, two 1/4 bsp lock nuts plus the pressed metal nuts that I slotted previously.

All the parts needed modifying, basically shortened and then screwed together and assembled in the bracket. This is the detail.

Finished product ready to be re-installed. Test run worked perfectly.

These won't be going anywhere, a bit of loctite and set for life.
I had to replace mine a few years back, i ended up with these dzus fasteners,

Used them for my race bike fairings and had a bunch left over. Just rivet in the backing plate and these pop in with a 1/4 turn.Image

Dzus, perfect solution. I had some years ago for my bike but they've wandered off over time and getting just a few can be more trouble than it's worth.

Re the battery, I've fitted the extension and no mucking around now, just plug and play. I didn't really expect much from the LED lights, what I really wanted was a panel fit socket that I could just plug into. That's been achieved.
CTEK charge.jpg
What it did do was to bring to my attention how quickly the battery voltage drops. I really wasn't expecting that so now I'm a little more prepared. I'll have to go through a set of checks to see where it's going but in the meantime I'll be preventing a flat battery.

Start with the alarm horn in the boot / bumper. Proper piece of poo, that.

That plug does look tidy. Might have to get one!

I bought a new OE one, but it was the same old crap.

I bought a "good" used one - with the plan to maybe redo it with a better sounder. But it's never quite made it to the top of the todo list.

For battery monitoring, (on the boat and landrover particularly) I've been using these : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123965268219
They're pretty good.

Liking what's Tony's done above, I've just been googling the CTEK stuff and came across this : https://www.ctek.com/au/products/vehicl ... tery-sense
I like!

That is very cool. Shame it's not wifi. Would be nice to be able to interrogate remotely.

I have an OBD dongal that's wifi. It's kind of OK - except all those wifi things I've used set themselves up as a base station - which of course disconnects you from everything else.
So I think BT is probably OK as long as it gives enough range. My earin headphones have about 40 feet across the garden just fine, and do go through the garage walls OK (albeit not with 40 foot range then). I also find it's a pain then having to make sure you're connected to the wifi network you want - wherease BT is multiple jobbies at once. The CTEK app says it supports multiple units, too.

So I've put my money where my mouth is and will give this a go...

Yeah, I hate those devices, the ones that you allude to, that set themselves up as a wifi access point so that they have the exclusive connection. It's a poor man's bluetooth connection because they don't want to pay the Apple license for using Bluetooth API. Can't criticise the CTEK for this.

The Mitsubishi does this. It's completely crap. If I want to access the Mitsubishi, I have to disconnect from my wifi, connect to the Mitsu's access point (which is badly security flawed, also, as a bonus). Afterwards I have to tell my phone to forget the network so that it doesn't connect to it, thinking it's an internet enabled access point. Needless to say, I never use it.

What I meant, however, was that I would like the CTEK to connect to one of my wifi networks as a client so that I could interrogate it from anywhere in the world at any time. It feels like an opportunity missed. If I'm close enough for Bluetooth connection, I'm close enough to look at the charger status (which is lying on the floor next to the car).

When I'm charging mine I use an old tablet to take a photo of the dongle every 5 mins and then upload the photo to Google drive.
Can access the photos from anywhere..
Saves me popping out to the car to check the charging status.

Should've said - it doesn't take a photo of the dongle but of the charger itself...
Works ok for my needs
