New ABS module - New fault codes (01420/01421)

Post by Siph3r » Sat Aug 24, 2019 4:26 pm

Hi all.

replaced today the broken ABS module with a one that is fixed in Germany. All was sweet for the first hour. Then after a “heavy” kickdown to quickly pass a Prius(!) all hell broke loose..

I now have ABS/ESP along with the red symbol in center.

Error codes:

- 01420 - High Pressure switch Valve 1 for Electronic stability control (N227)
- 01421 - High Pressure switch Valve 1 for Electronic stability control (N227)

Clearing codes does not work.

Ross-States brake electronic’s fault.

If anyone has any idea, it would be appreciated. MOT next week...

Thanks

Sounds like it yet another poor repair.

If so, it has lifetime warranty:)

Starting to believe it’s the pump that has struck a problem..When turning ignition on the ABS pump is now making 2 loud clicks followed by a third that sound more like a broken bell (same every time)

So i’m gonna change the ABS pump, and hopefully that will work..

Kinda regret not changing both parts when i had everything off :(

New pump did not fix this..

Strange if it is the ABS module after such short time.
Really little info around on these 2 codes.

It’s because the tiny wires break and are extremely difficult to fix reliably. I had a go at one and it worked for a while. Once one wire breaks, others follow. The vibrations cause fatigue despite the damping gel.

New ABS module - New fault codes (01420/01421)

Post by Siph3r » Tue Aug 27, 2019 6:42 pm

Thanks Shop:)

Will have it sent back for repair.

What is so unique about the one for the RS6? They all have different soft coding anyway, so why make the electronic unit different?

Sometimes i’d like to smack som Germans :)

As far as I can tell, they aren’t different electrically. I haven’t really looked into it but the one I replaced on a friend’s E39 looked identical in every way to the RS6 one. That was only £300 brand new from Autodoc.

I would really like to know if it could be programmed for a RS6.

Maybe another new 5.7 ABS module from another Audi could just be coded for the RS6.

Hmm..

Extremely tempted to remove the one in my wife’s 04 A6 1.8 TQ and try.

But if i were to mess up her car also, i’m sleepin in the garage for quite some time

Problem is, once they’ve been coded it’s not always possible to revise them to another car.

Meh, give it a try. Who needs abs on an A4 anyway. :)

So...

Sent the ABS Module to ECU Testing last Tuesday, and had it back in Norway Friday. Pretty impressed! All codes gone and working like a charm.

On the MOT they also noted down that only 1 of 2 rear foghligts were working..

Isn’t there only one? (UK passenger side) My other A6 also just have 1 that lights up, the other one seems be a dummy more or less..

:)
