Cambelt Cost

Post by magpie21 » Thu Feb 07, 2019 2:14 pm

It’s that time again and I’ve just been quoted £1900 to have the cambelt done by a specialist. I’m sure it wasn’t that much the last time I had it done. Has anyone had theirs done recently so I can compare costs?
Cheers

Is that with all pulleys, tensioners, water pump and thermostat?

So about £540 labour then? Seems a bit steep.

When I did mine there was about a grand's worth of stuff at undiscounted retail prices. Looks like they might not be passing on the trade discount. Then again, prices have taken a hit with the weak pound, so who knows?

You could price up the parts with an online OE supplier like online-teile.de and compare the prices. Part numbers in my cambelt DIY in the FAQ.

You could always phone Audi for a price if you feel like a giggle.

Mine was done 2 years ago according to my history. £800 all in.

That was for belt kit, waterpump, thermostat, antifreeze, aux belt.

The price also included replacing 2 vacum hoses.

Was done by V.A.S.S in Kent if you are anywhere near there...

The pulleys and tensioner are super important, though. You need to price those in.

I did mine a few months back and trade price was approx £500 for all the parts except the auxiliary belt. Also when I went to collect the part they gave me a £60 refund on the water pump as they don't exchange them anymore. The auxiliary belt I got for £16 from a local parts outlet and it was a gates belt. I also bought all the special tools for the job which cost another £80.
