Ticking sound from drivers bank.
Evening,
So went from big Jags to my first RS6 on Sunday and loving it, one issue i was hoping someone could point me in a direction for though.
There is a ticking sound that correspnds to engine revs as rev up but once you lift off it goes away untill its back to idle. I have ben round with the stethoscope and it is very audible through the secondary air pump even when the plug is removed.
Cant hear it anywhere elseand it is worse when cold and whilst it is quieter when warm it is still there.
I will get some pictures of the car up this weekend hopefully!
Only issue I do know I have is broken vaccum pipes all over the show which is Saturdays job.
Cheers
Peter

Welcome and FON,
Sai pumps are prone to failure however the fact that your tick corresponds with the engine rpm could kinda of steer me away from that a little . However always worth checking. Could it be a manifold or turbo gasket blowing ? Or is it more of a mechanical noise you can here ? . Could also be a noisy lifter I guess .But first thing to do is to get the vac hoses changed and see what you discover

Sounds like exhaust noise is coming back through the SAI piping, that's why you're hearing it there. Maybe the combination valve is failing and letting exhaust gas through the wrong way. They're a PITA to get to to replace. Well, one of them is, and you can be sure it'll be that one that's failing.
Presumably if it's leaking, it'll be admitting air into the exhaust stream, too, so you might be getting incorrect fuelling. It'll probably only get worse, so you might want to think about a SAI delete.
I think the combination valves require vacuum to open, so it probably isn't a vac leak, although it's always a good idea to check because leaks lead to all kinds of woes.
Also, FON and rule 1.
/Might be worth swapping out the N112, too. I guess that could fail in a way that would allow vacuum to partially activate the combination valves. You could test that by blocking off the vacuum pipes between the N112 and combination valves, but if the SAI system tried to activate when you are in that configuration you might get a MIL and you will need a Vagcom to reset it.

Re: Ticking sound from drivers bank.
Yes to some degree.
So SAI delete done to some degree, I didn't quite have the time to attempt to get down to the fixings for the valves(what a nightmare) so removed all the pipework and pump and just plugged the combo valves in situ I did have a peak at the fixings with an endoscope and there is no soot so I know they aren't leaking externally. Looped the vac pipe on the N112 valve and the engine light stays off. I was getting faults for both combo valves before which was explained when I removed the SAI pump and found it was full of water, reset the light with my free Carista App and bluetooth dongle.
Vac pipes all replaced when I did the plugs.
And still noise sadly so back to square one.
ALSO I will wash the damn thing and get better pictures but:

And with a mates XJR
